Andy Beshear stood by his Democrat peer Gavin Newsom after Bill Maher called out the latter\u2019s social media trolling of Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

The governor of Kentucky, who appeared on \u201cReal Time With Bill Maher\u201d Friday, maintained a united front for the Democratic party, as he vocally applauded his fellow governor for the work he\u2019s done in California.<\/p>\n

The discussion kicked off when Maher suggested Newsom \u2014 who has repeatedly mimicked Trump\u2019s feisty social media style<\/a> on X this year \u2014 had \u201cjumped the shark\u201d with his online antics.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that something you endorse? Do you think it\u2019s an effective technique? Would you do it? Should we keeping doing? Should we stop doing it?\u201d Maher grilled the Southern politician. <\/p>\n

Initially, Beshear didn\u2019t address Newsom\u2019s social media behavior and instead addressed the Calif. governor\u2019s Prop 50 measure<\/a>, which will authorize temporary changes to the state\u2019s congressional district maps \u2014 directly combating similar action being done in Texas.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe taking the fight back,\u201d Beshear noted. \u201cI wish we didn\u2019t have to be there. I wish we didn\u2019t have to do it. But, once Texas changed the rules of the game, we all have to play by the same rules. And so, I appreciate his leadership there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maher then cut Beshear off, noting this wasn\u2019t an example of trolling, rather a strategy tackling a real issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s pushing back in his way,\u201d Beshear went on. \u201cIt\u2019s not my way. It\u2019s just not me. But I think everybody has to take their style and do what\u2019s best for their people. But I think he is standing up. I think he\u2019s pushing back and I think it takes all of us in our own ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beshear later expressed that he was feeling optimistic heading into midterm elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think people don\u2019t like extremism and people feel the country may have swung too far one way and now is swinging too far the other way and it\u2019s impacting their daily lives,\u201d he concluded. \u201cBut, even before we get to midterms, the Democrats are going to win the governorship of both New Jersey and Virginia. We\u2019re working really hard to make that happen.\u201d <\/p>\n
