{"id":250481,"date":"2025-10-25T09:50:04","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T09:50:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/250481\/"},"modified":"2025-10-25T09:50:04","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T09:50:04","slug":"pedro-acosta-punished-for-breaking-motogps-new-qualifying-restart-rule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/250481\/","title":{"rendered":"Pedro Acosta punished for breaking MotoGP\u2019s new qualifying restart rule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/1040772\/pedro-acosta\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pedro Acosta <\/a>has become the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MotoGP <\/a>rider punished under a new restart rule, introduced to prevent yellow flags from disrupting the crucial closing moments of qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>The FIM MotoGP Stewards announced that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/teams\/red-bull-ktm-factory-racing\" data-entity-type=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KTM<\/a> rider had been fined \u20ac2,000 after breaching the regulation during Saturday\u2019s qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On 25TH October 2025 at 11:27:15 during the Qualifying 2 of the PETRONAS GRAND PRIX OF MALAYSIA, after a crash at Turn 1, within the final three minutes of the session, you restarted the bike and continued,\u201d read the official statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis directly contravenes the specific instructions given to MotoGP competitors and teams during a briefing on 23rd October 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new rule aims to limit yellow flag periods, which automatically cancel the laps of any rider passing through the affected area.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>While a fallen rider might be tempted to re-join simply to try and salvage another final flying lap, prolonging yellow flag periods can also help preserve their grid position.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, the only impact for Acosta is to his wallet, and he will start as planned from fifth on the grid in Sunday\u2019s Malaysian MotoGP.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Acosta&#8217;s best lap time was set early in Qualifying 2, on his second of seven laps.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I understand both sides, but when you crash, you&#8217;re not going to check the dash to see if it&#8217;s less than three minutes to go or three minutes and 20 seconds!&#8221;
