Corentin Moutet tasted sweet revenge after beating Daniil Medvedev at the Vienna Open. <\/p>\n

Four days after Moutet lost to Medvedev<\/a> in the Almaty Open final, he defeated the Russian in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals in Vienna. <\/p>\n

The Frenchman\u2019s loss in the championship match in Almaty marked another near-miss in his pursuit of a maiden ATP<\/a> title. <\/p>\n

Moutet<\/a> had fallen short in both of his previous tour-level final appearances, suffering title-bout defeats in Doha during the 2020 season, as well as Mallorca this year.<\/p>\n

Though his victory over Medvedev<\/a> in Vienna will not make up for his loss in the Almaty final, he will gain plenty of confidence from a win over the former world number one going forward. <\/p>\n

Speaking on Sky Sports<\/a> after the match, Moutet said he made a number of changes in his approach to the rematch. <\/p>\n

Corentin Moutet reacts to beating Daniil Medvedev in Vienna<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old said: \u201cI knew it would be intense. It was hard to come from Almaty to here, you know, there is a long travel and jetlag.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a big match in the final, so it was hard to recover, but I\u2019m more than happy with my performance. I played very aggressively today.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was different conditions, of course, but it\u2019s always a big, big challenge to play against Daniil. As I said, he is such a great player, very intense, you know, very solid. If I wanted to get the win, I had to play very good tennis, and I did.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you know, I learned a few things that I didn\u2019t do very good. It is details. I played very good in the final, but not well enough at this level.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this level, it\u2019s the last percentage that can make you win, so the little improvements that I couldn\u2019t make, I was trying to do today.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing more aggressive, putting more pressure on him and serving better. It was a close match in the finals, so of course I was disappointed because I wanted to get my first title, but at the same time I played a very good match. I just tried to do the same, but a bit better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Corentin Moutet levels the head-to-head after win in Vienna<\/p>\n

With his win over Medvedev at the Vienna Open, Moutet has now levelled the head-to-head, with the score tied at 2-2. <\/p>\n

Three of their four career meetings have all come during the 2025 ATP season, with Medvedev winning their first tour-level clash in Mallorca four years ago. <\/p>\n

Moutet made it 1-1 earlier this year at the Washington Open after coming back from a set down to advance to the semifinals. <\/p>\n
