Injuries continue to cause havoc and it could have a major impact on the final tournaments of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

The most talked about injury in recent weeks has been related to Holger Rune, who retired in tears at the Stockholm Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rune has since undergone surgery on his Achilles<\/a>, but he is expected to be out of action for an extended period of time.<\/p>\n

Now, the player who Rune<\/a> retired against in Stockholm has suffered an injury of his own and could miss the upcoming Paris Masters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There had been many retirements at the ATP 500 tournament in Basel<\/a>, with Casper Ruud<\/a>, Denis Shapovalov<\/a> and Felix Auger-Aliassime<\/a> all unable to complete their respective quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

The only quarterfinal that was completed was Ugo Humbert<\/a> beating Reilly Opelka<\/a>, but that may now have backfired on the Frenchman.<\/p>\n

After losing the first set and going down a break against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina<\/a>, Humbert was forced to retire as well.<\/p>\n

When speaking to L\u2019Equipe<\/a> about this injury, Humbert\u2019s coach Jeremy Chardy revealed that it was a recurring back injury that was troubling him and suggested that it could cause him to withdraw from his home Paris Masters. <\/p>\n

\u201cUgo hurt his back in the same place as this summer,\u201d said Chardy. \u201cI\u2019m not sure he\u2019ll be able to play next week. We\u2019ll do everything we can, but tonight it looks complicated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Humbert broke his finger<\/a> earlier this year and has also been troubled by his back in the summer, which significantly disrupted his North American hard court swing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe back pain just started suddenly,\u201d Humbert said earlier this year. \u201d I was training and my back locked up. Apparently, I have an old fracture from a long time ago. And when it moves a little, it rubs, which causes inflammation. Right now, it\u2019s flared up a little more than usual. I have to deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why could Ugo Humbert\u2019s withdrawing from the Paris Masters have a big impact?<\/p>\n

The Paris Masters is a big tournament for French players, and it is also the final ATP<\/a> 1000 tournament of the season.<\/p>\n

Humbert, who has been ranked as high as world number 13, still currently remains in the draw for the Paris Masters, but if he withdraws it could have a significant impact on him.<\/p>\n

Last year saw Humbert reach the Paris Masters final<\/a> for the first time in his career, where he lost to Alexander Zverev<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a result, Humbert is defending a huge 650 ranking points, and if he was to withdraw from the tournament he would be guaranteed to fall to outside the top 32 in the ATP rankings.<\/p>\n

This would be significant as it would mean that he would be outside the seeded spots for the next Grand Slam, something his compatriot Arthur Fils is also facing for the Australian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n
