Texas Tech<\/a> quarterback Will Hammond<\/a> will hit the sidelines due to injury. According to a report from On3\u2019s Pete Nakos<\/a>, the Red Raiders gunslinger suffered a torn ACL on Saturday and will miss the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

Hammond suffered the injury in a win over Oklahoma State<\/a> on Saturday. He was 9-of-15 passing for 102 yards and a touchdown before exiting the contest.<\/p>\n

The backup quarterback had filled in admirably this season for the injured starter, Behren Morton<\/a>. Hammond started Saturday\u2019s game against the Cowboys, his second start of the season.<\/p>\n

Prior to Saturday, Will Hammond had made his first start on the road at Arizona State<\/a>. In that game, a 26-22 loss, Hammond went 22-of-37 passing for 167 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. He also ran for 47 yards and a score.<\/p>\n

But he had played on and off throughout the season in relief of Morton, who has dealt with a number of injuries. Hammond finishes the year 69-of-109 passing for 680 yards, with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. He also ran for 299 yards and five scores.<\/p>\n

Texas Tech will now hope that Morton is healthy enough to return with Will Hammond out for good. He was held from the Oklahoma State game, which the Red Raiders won comfortably.<\/p>\n

But he appears close to healthy again, remaining day-to-day per On3\u2019s Pete Nakos. Morton has dealt with injuries throughout the season. He injured his right knee initially in a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff<\/a>, but it did not sideline him. He also exited the Utah<\/a> win when he took a hit to the neck area.<\/p>\n

The quarterback has thrown for 1,501 yards with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions this season, completing 68.4% of his passes. Morton was available in an emergency role if necessary against Arizona State.<\/p>\n
