The dream of seeing Tobey Maguire<\/a> swing back into action for Spider-Man 4<\/a> isn\u2019t seemingly dead yet. The Batman \u2013 Part II co-writer Mattson Tomlin<\/a> has shared a cautiously optimistic tidbit about his campaign to write Spider-Man 4.<\/p>\n

On X (formerly Twitter), screenwriter Mattson Tomlin responded to a fan asking if his pitch for Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire had gained any traction. Tomlin revealed that while things are complicated, the dream isn\u2019t entirely dead.<\/p>\n

Tomlin has been vocal about his desire to craft a grounded continuation of Sam Raimi\u2019s trilogy. Earlier this year, he shared his concept for a story where Maguire\u2019s Peter Parker navigates life as both a superhero and a father. \u201cSpider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films,\u201d he posted<\/a> on X back in July 2025.<\/p>\n

Spider-Man 4 was originally slated for release in May 2011, with Sam Raimi returning to direct and Tobey Maguire reprising his role. However, creative disagreements led Sony to cancel the project and reboot the franchise with The Amazing Spider-Man, featuring Andrew Garfield, in 2012.<\/p>\n

Since then, Raimi and Maguire have both expressed openness to returning to the franchise. Raimi told Moviepilot<\/a> in 2022 that the Marvel multiverse gave him hope that anything is possible. Maguire echoed a similar sentiment in Spider-Man: No Way Home The Official Movie Special (2023), sharing, \u201cIf these guys called me and said, \u2018Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?\u2019 or \u2018Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?\u2019, it would be a \u2018yes!\u2019 Because why wouldn\u2019t I want to do that?\u201d (via Screenrant<\/a>)<\/p>\n

However, Sony Pictures has not yet commented on Tomlin\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n
