Nick Cave fans have descended on a charity bookshop in Hove, in southern England, after the musician donated 2,000 books from his personal collection.<\/p>\n
The Australian singer made the donation to Hove\u2019s Oxfam Bookshop<\/a> on Blatchington Road. The books were once part of his personal library, which was recreated for an art installation<\/a> that went to Denmark and Canada.<\/p>\n A bookshop worker named only as Richard told the Argus<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s a very interesting donation. The types of books are very wide ranging \u2013 there\u2019s philosophy, art, religion, even old fiction paperbacks. It\u2019s an incredibly varied donation. To view this content, click ‘Allow and continue’.<\/p>\n The Times reported that \u201ca crowd of people\u201d were going through Cave\u2019s books in the shop by Friday, with treasures including Cave\u2019s boarding pass for a flight to Amsterdam, a map of the US, an empty packet of cigarettes and an \u201cold envelope with the words \u2018Lukes tooth\u2019 written in Cave\u2019s distinctive handwriting.\u201d His son Luke is 34 years old.<\/p>\n On Saturday, a queue formed at the shop as word spread.<\/p>\n Cave and his family moved to Brighton in the 2000s. One of his sons, Arthur, died in 2015 after falling from a cliff in Ovingdean Gap<\/a> in Brighton. The family left for Los Angeles, then London; in 2023, they sold the Brighton home <\/a>for \u00a32.9m<\/a>. Cave wrote: \u201cBrighton had just become too sad \u2026 we did, however, return once we realised that, regardless of where we lived, we just took our sadness with us.\u201d<\/p>\n Richard told the Argus that many of Cave\u2019s books will just look like regular books on the shelves, unless fans go searching: \u201cA couple have plane tickets used as bookmarks but apart from that. It\u2019s not like he was one of these people who had a book plate or wrote his name in.\u201d<\/p>\n However, some customers reported finding books with sentences underlined or passages noted in Cave\u2019s handwriting.
