SAN JOSE \u2014 Good Samaritan Hospital is embarking on a $1.3 billion project to create an ultramodern medical center at its San Jose campus \u2014 a healthcare hub that will be equipped with cutting-edge services for its patients.<\/p>\n
The construction project will create a new hospital<\/a> with 234 rooms that are all expected to be single-patient spaces, according to Good Samaritan Hospital and its owner, Tennessee-based HCA Healthcare.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s our largest single investment for any hospital in our company\u2019s history,\u201d said Good Samaritan Hospital Chief Executive Officer Patrick Rohan in an interview with this news organization.<\/p>\n The state-of-the-art facility will have 234 new inpatient rooms once the structure is complete, according to Good Samaritan. The new hospital will connect to an existing and relatively new four-story women\u2019s hospital.<\/p>\n The existing hospital came into operation at a time when shared, semi-private rooms were the industry standard, but all the new rooms will be private spaces.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will have a whole new emergency room, a new operating room, and new inpatient treatment rooms,\u201d Rohan said. \u201cWe are investing in AI and robotics platforms. We will be able to do more inpatient procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n The new medical center formally breaks ground this Wednesday and should be complete in 2032.<\/p>\n \u201cOur new hospital is being built to meet current demand and the needs of the next five-to-10 years,\u201d Rohan said.<\/p>\n The old hospital will eventually be bulldozed, creating a green open space \u2014 and a site where a second tower could be constructed.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is enough shelf space on the site to allow us to build a second new tower,\u201d Rohan said. \u201cThe number of rooms and beds for the second tower would depend on the building\u2019s configuration and on the future needs of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n The first hospital tower project would add 715,100 square feet of new construction, according to Good Sam Hospital and HCA.<\/p>\n The project is expected to create about 1,550 construction jobs during the course of the development of the new hospital and a nearby parking structure. The new parking garage would create 658 additional parking spaces.<\/p>\n Good Samaritan will also construct a central utility plant that is capable of providing on-site infrastructure to support hospital operations, resilience, and efficiency.<\/p>\n At present, the Good Samaritan campus site has about 300 beds that are in active, daily use, stated a representative for the hospital.<\/p>\n The completion of the new hospital will leave Good Sam with 339 beds throughout its campus after the old hospital is demolished, according to hospital officials.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been excited about this project for years,\u201d Rohan said. \u201cThis project is one of the big reasons I wanted to come here to Good Sam.\u201d He was named the hospital\u2019s CEO<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n
