MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – An email sent over the weekend to supporters from Representative Julie Fedorchak caused a stir on social media.<\/p>\n
In the email, Fedorchak calls out Senate Democrats over the ongoing government funding debate.<\/p>\n
The message claims Democrats are pushing to restore taxpayer-funded health care for undocumented immigrants.<\/p>\n
We wanted to get to the bottom of all of this, and asked the congresswoman about it in an exclusive interview on Monday.<\/p>\n
A section of the Working Families Tax Cut in the Big Beautiful Bill puts a halt to a loophole that covered health care for illegal immigrants in some states.<\/p>\n
In an email to constituents, Representative Julie Fedorchak said Democrats want that portion of the bill removed, and that is one of the reasons they won\u2019t vote to stop the government shutdown.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Medicaid program is not eligible for non-U.S. citizens. That\u2019s the eligibility today,\u201d said Fedorchak.<\/p>\n
But Fedorchak said some states are getting federal dollars reimbursed to them when they care for undocumented immigrants.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have decided in New York and California that they want to provide Medicaid to illegal aliens,\u201d said Fedorchak.<\/p>\n
She added that the goal with these reforms is to stop incentivizing coming to the country illegally.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we have done is close the loophole that previously allowed them to use federal dollars to pay for a part of that care,\u201d said Fedorchak.<\/p>\n
Before voting to end the shutdown, Democrats want to extend tax credits for the Affordable Care Act to avoid premium hikes for those who aren\u2019t covered at their workplace.<\/p>\n
The North Dakota Democratic-NPL party is pushing back on Fedorchak\u2019s email, saying Democrats are continuing the fight to lower health care costs for American families. <\/p>\n
The party criticizing the state\u2019s congressional delegation, adding:<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir [North Dakota Republicans] only way to save face when North Dakotans see their 2026 premiums go through the roof is to lie to their constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n
Others took to social media to voice their frustration with Fedorchak, with one saying in part:<\/p>\n
\u201cI voted for her\u2014and her attempt to mislead you is gross and insulting.\u201d<\/p>\n
The congresswoman said that people who are having a medical emergency\u2014American citizens or undocumented immigrants\u2014should be able to get treatment in an emergency room, regardless of their ability to pay.<\/p>\n
According to George Washington University, Medicaid emergency room costs are about $2 billion. Medicaid in total is a trillion-dollar program.<\/p>\n
