(The Hill<\/a>) \u2014 President Donald Trump on Sunday once again urged pregnant women not to take Tylenol unless \u201cabsolutely necessary,\u201d to avoid giving the over-the-counter drug to children \u201cfor virtually any reason\u201d and to break up certain vaccine dosages.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s renewed call comes a month after he and top health officials<\/a> said pregnant women should not take acetaminophen \u2014 one of the most widely used medications in the world \u2014 for pain relief because of a potential risk of autism, despite no new evidence proving the drug directly causes it. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The advice was also notable because acetaminophen had been seen as the safest pain medication for pregnant women to take.<\/p>\n

But Trump doubled down on his calls with the Sunday post.<\/p>\n

\u201cPregnant Women, DON\u2019T USE TYLENOL UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, DON\u2019T GIVE TYLENOL TO YOUR YOUNG CHILD FOR VIRTUALLY ANY REASON, BREAK UP THE MMR SHOT INTO THREE TOTALLY SEPARATE SHOTS (NOT MIXED!), TAKE CHICKEN P SHOT SEPARATELY, TAKE HEPATITAS B SHOT AT 12 YEARS OLD, OR OLDER, AND, IMPORTANTLY, TAKE VACCINE IN 5 SEPARATE MEDICAL VISITS! President DJT,\u201d Trump said in a post on Truth Social that linked to a Daily Caller<\/a> article claiming the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stayed silent about potential Tylenol risks.<\/p>\n

The president also gave personal suggestions<\/a> last month on when and how parents should have their children receive certain vaccines, offering advice he said was based on his own feelings.<\/p>\n

Jim O\u2019Neill, the acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has endorsed Trump\u2019s\u00a0call<\/a> to split the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, despite no research supporting the change.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both the\u00a0World Health Organization\u00a0and the\u00a0European Union\u00a0have refuted Trump\u2019s assertion that acetaminophen may cause conditions like autism and ADHD when taken by pregnant women. The FDA acknowledged that \u201ca causal relationship has not been established\u201d in public statements following Trump\u2019s initial plea.<\/p>\n

Medical organizations have also backed acetaminophen as safe for pregnant women, including both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.<\/p>\n

However, Trump and Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in September that the FDA would begin updating the label on acetaminophen and notifying physicians that Tylenol \u201ccan be associated with a very increased risk of autism.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

Last week, Tylenol maker\u00a0Kenvue\u00a0called on\u00a0the FDA<\/a> to pull back on the proposed safety label change. The current label\u00a0instructs people who are pregnant or breastfeeding to \u201cask a health professional before use.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In response to a citizen petition filed last month, the company said the\u00a0\u201cexpansive scientific evidence developed over many years\u201d\u00a0does not support a causal link\u00a0between acetaminophen use in pregnancy\u00a0and\u00a0developmental disorders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The citizen petition was filed by the Informed Consent Action Network, an anti-vaccine nonprofit with close ties to Kennedy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAcetaminophen is one of the most studied medicines in history, and scientific evidence regarding\u00a0acetaminophen\u00a0use in pregnancy and neurodevelopmental outcomes has been continuously evaluated by\u00a0FDA\u00a0and industry for more than a decade,\u201d\u00a0Kenvue\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The company noted that adopting the change would be \u201carbitrary, capricious, and contrary to law.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kenvue\u00a0said last week that it had met with Kennedy\u00a0and other HHS staff\u00a0in early September after he reached out to\u00a0\u201cexpress his view about an association between acetaminophen and autism.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
