Before turning to November, season-long expectations have not been met by Clemson<\/a>. Many predicted the Tigers to not only make the College Football Playoff<\/a> but win the national championship as well. Sitting at 3-4 through seven games likely is not what Dabo Swinney<\/a> expected at this stage.<\/p>\n

Even so, Swinney continues to defend the work he has done throughout the years. On Monday, he called out \u201clogo schools\u201d for not getting over the hump \u2014 something Clemson has done on three occasions under Swinney\u2019s watch. After all, only Alabama<\/a> holds more national championships since the turn of the century.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of logo schools out there that haven\u2019t won a championship since Christopher Columbus sailed,\u201d Swinney said<\/a> via Chapel Fowler of The State Newspaper. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to do \u2026 Everything we\u2019ve done here, we\u2019ve done multiple times.\u201d He later added that Clemson is \u201cbuilt on the right stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swinney did help Clemson make last year\u2019s CFP after earning a spot in the ACC Championship game. Miami<\/a> lost to Syracuse<\/a> late in the season, opening the door for Clemson. They took advantage of the situation, beating SMU<\/a> and slotting into the 12-team field with the final spot.<\/p>\n

But another poor campaign means people are once again calling for Swinney\u2019s job. Not too uncommon in today\u2019s college football, as multiple massive jobs are open in the middle of the season. LSU<\/a>\u2018s Brian Kelly<\/a> was the latest to be fired on Sunday evening. Brent Pry<\/a> at Virginia Tech<\/a> is another example inside the ACC.<\/p>\n

Not many professions out there are like being a head coach. Swinney acknowledged the craziness of them all, possibly wondering why people want him out of Clemson, even with the success.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of guys are getting fired because they don\u2019t have a track record of winning championships,\u201d Swinney said<\/a>. \u201cAnd a lot of people want me fired despite a track record of winning championships. It\u2019s a crazy profession.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swinney admits all of his attention right now is getting Clemson prepared to play Duke<\/a>. A win would bring the Tigers back to .500 at 4-4 overall. If Clemson can pull off a surprising run to close out the year, they are likely still too far behind to produce another surprise run.<\/p>\n

Those previous national championships remain fresh on his mind, though.
