Emma Thompson made it clear she was not a fan of artificial intelligence during her latest appearance on \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress laid into the technology during a conversation with host Stephen Colbert, blasting it as an \u201cintense irritation\u201d amid her writing process.<\/p>\n

\u201cIntense irritation. I cannot begin to tell you,\u201d Thompson replied when asked her thoughts on AI. \u201cBecause I write longhand on a pad. Old script, actually. Because I believe that there\u2019s a connection between the brain and the hand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert co-signed this notion, noting that he too needs to write things out by hand in order to \u201cmemorize\u201d lines.<\/p>\n

As the conversation went on, Thompson struggled to hide her frustration with AI, especially in regards to the frequent suggestions for her written work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I\u2019ve written something, I will put it into a word document. And, recently, the word document is constantly saying, \u2018Would you like me to rewrite that for you?’\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd so, I just end up going, \u2018I don\u2019t need you to f\u2013king rewrite what I\u2019ve just written. Will you f\u2013k off? Just f\u2013k off.\u2019 I\u2019m so annoyed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thompson isn\u2019t the first celebrity to call out artificial intelligence. In fact, last week, actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt called for AI super-intelligence development\u00a0to stop until safety standards could be met.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would you want to build an AI that\u2019s smarter than humans?\u201d Gordon-Levitt remarked in an X video<\/a>. \u201cYou could say AI is going to cure diseases or AI is going to help strengthen our national security, and, yeah, I want those things, too. But why couldn\u2019t we just build an AI tool to help cure diseases or build an AI tool to help with national security? Why does it have to all be one big product that does everything?\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, Sean Astin, who currently serves as the president of SAG-AFTRA, condemned OpenAI\u2019s Sora 2<\/a>, an AI video generation app, for threatening \u201cthe economic foundation of our entire industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf AI companies can shift the burden to rightsholders to opt out, what does copyright really mean? Opt-out isn\u2019t consent \u2014 let alone informed consent. That\u2019s why SAG-AFTRA fights for opt-in approaches,\u201d Astin, along with National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, wrote in a memo earlier this month. \u201cNo one\u2019s creative work, image, likeness or voice should be used without affirmative, informed consent. Anything less is an unjustifiable violation of our rights.\u201d<\/p>\n
