It\u2019s been almost two years since the rom-com Anyone But You starring Sydney Sweeney<\/a> and Glen Powell premiered, and somehow they\u2019re still getting asked about their undeniable chemistry<\/a>. While their close relationship has been described as a PR stunt<\/a> put on to sell their movie, Sweeney swears they didn\u2019t have to play into the dating rumors at all.<\/p>\n \u201cHonestly, the press did it themselves. There was no leaning in, per se,\u201d she said in an interview with Variety<\/a>. \u201cTruly the tabloids and journalists just created it and kept going. Even if we were just standing next to each other, it was \u2018They\u2019re standing two inches apart!\u2019 Glen and I genuinely care for each other and have a love and respect for one another. I love being with him. And I think people just truly saw a really beautiful pairing.\u201d<\/p>\n Powell, on the other hand, told the New York Times<\/a> in April 2024 that the co-stars did, in fact, play up the romance speculation. \u201cSydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s people wanting what\u2019s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit \u2014 and it worked wonderfully.\u201d<\/p>\n I don\u2019t think the actor\u2019s ex, Gigi Paris<\/a>, agrees. In June, she went on a podcast<\/a> and spoke about her 2023 breakup with Powell, calling it not \u201cjust a two-sided breakup, but three-sided.\u201d Although she didn\u2019t mention either actors by name, Paris said they let the affair rumors persist just to \u201csell a movie.\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t know if there was a relationship there or not, but then they came out to say it was all a PR scheme at the expense of our relationship,\u201d Paris said.<\/p>\n To this day, both Powell and Sweeney insist that their relationship is and was platonic \u2014 they\u2019re also \u201calways open to\u201d shooting a sequel, apparently. \u201cI think that when the right concept and script come to Glen and I, we will jump in hand in hand,\u201d Sweeney said.
