In previous years, to be eligible for the Gothams, a film\u2019s budget couldn\u2019t exceed $35 million. Past best feature winners have included \u201cSpotlight\u201d (2015), \u201cMoonlight\u201d (2016) and \u201cEverything Everywhere All at Once\u201d (2022), all of which went on to win best picture at the Oscars. The removal of budget caps was essentially a non-factor in 2024, with the only nominee from a big-budget film being Ryan Gosling in \u201cBarbie.\u201d Now, with \u201cOne Battle\u2019s\u201d budget exceeding $130 million, it feels out of place among the smaller indie titles in its categories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe other films nominated for best feature, which now has 10 nominees, include \u201cBugonia,\u201d \u201cEast of Wall,\u201d \u201cFamiliar Touch,\u201d \u201cHamnet,\u201d \u201cIf I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You,\u201d \u201cLurker,\u201d \u201cSorry, Baby,\u201d \u201cThe Testament of Ann Lee\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/train-dreams\/\" id=\"auto-tag_train-dreams\" data-tag=\"train-dreams\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Train Dreams<\/a>.\u201d The kudos will be handed out Dec. 1 in New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn addition to \u201cOne Battle After Another,\u201d several major contenders scored multiple nominations. The best director category includes Mary Bronstein (\u201cIf I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You\u201d), Jafar Panahi (\u201cIt Was Just an Accident\u201d), Kelly Reichardt (\u201cThe Mastermind\u201d), Paul Thomas Anderson (\u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d) and Oliver Laxe (\u201cSir\u00e2t\u201d).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe lead acting lineup, which is in its fourth year as a gender-neutral category, features best actress frontrunner Jessie Buckley (\u201cHamnet\u201d) and other acting hopefuls such as Lee Byung-hun (\u201cNo Other Choice\u201d), Rose Byrne (\u201cIf I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You\u201d), Ethan Hawke (\u201cBlue Moon\u201d), Jennifer Lawrence (\u201cDie My Love\u201d), Amanda Seyfried (\u201cThe Testament of Ann Lee\u201d) and Tessa Thompson (\u201cHedda\u201d) among others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSupporting performance nominees include Jacob Elordi\u2019s transformative work as the Monster in \u201cFrankenstein,\u201d \u201cSinners\u201d standout performer Wunmi Mosaku,  and former Gotham acting winner Adam Sandler for his turn in \u201cJay Kelly.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBreakthrough performers include A$AP Rocky (\u201cHighest 2 Lowest\u201d), Sebiye Behtiyar (\u201cPreparation for the Next Life\u201d), Chase Infiniti (\u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d), Abou Sangar\u00e9 (\u201cSouleymane\u2019s Story\u201d) and Tonatiuh (\u201cKiss of the Spider Woman\u201d).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAmong the notable omissions is \u201cSentimental Value,\u201d Norway\u2019s Oscar submission in international feature, which wasn\u2019t among the nominees at the Gothams, and missed out on a best feature nom, along with its leading actress, Renate Reinsve. However, supporting players Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas and Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd were recognized.
