\n\tJeff Bridges<\/a> reprised his role as Kevin Flynn in\u00a0Tron: Ares<\/a>\u00a0and is sharing his take on movies being perceived as flops after their opening-weekend box-office results.<\/p>\n

\n\tTron: Ares opened on October 10 and had an opening weekend at the U.S. box office of $33.5M and a $60.5M global debut. The third film in the franchise was initially expected to open at $40M-$45M domestically and $80M-$90M globally.<\/p>\n

\n\tDeadline reported<\/a> that Tron: Ares had a cost of $220M and would have a loss of $132.7M after all ancillaries, if its final global gross stalled at $160M.<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, Bridges believes that a film can grow even after an opening weekend.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s interesting, though, how movies are received at opening weekend,\u201d Bridges told Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. \u201cI remember \u2018Heaven\u2019s Gate\u2019 was considered, you know, very disappointing or a flop, but nowadays it\u2019s considered kind of a masterpiece.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cSo it\u2019s interesting how things can grow on you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBridges reflected that \u201cas an individual, often, I have not liked a movie,\u201d adding, \u201cAnd then a couple weeks or months later, I\u2019ll see it again. I\u2019ll say, \u2018What was I thinking?\u2019 As the Dude would say, \u2018That\u2019s just like your opinion, man.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHeaven\u2019s Gate was pulled from theaters after a limited release due to negative reviews. The film was cut for its wide release, but it only grossed $3.5M on a $44M budget. Although the film wasn\u2019t a box-office success at its opening, it has received some praise over the years.<\/p>\n
