{"id":25855,"date":"2025-07-21T10:19:07","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T10:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/25855\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T10:19:07","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T10:19:07","slug":"jc-tretter-resigning-from-nflpa-in-another-stunning-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/25855\/","title":{"rendered":"JC Tretter resigning from NFLPA in another stunning move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NFLPA\u2019s nightmare saga has a new chapter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>JC Tretter, the union\u2019s chief strategy officer, is resigning from his position and removing himself from consideration to be the NFLPA\u2019s interim executive director, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/jc-tretter-resigns-from-nflpa-in-surprise-move-opening-up-about-lloyd-howell-executive-director-candidacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told CBS Sports on Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes in the wake of executive director Lloyd Howell Jr.\u2019s resignation last Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last couple days, it has gotten very, very hard for my family. And that\u2019s something I can\u2019t deal with,\u201d Tretter said. \u201cSo, the short bullet points are: I have no interest in being [executive director]. I have no interest in being considered. I\u2019ve let the executive committee know that. I\u2019m also going to leave the NFLPA in the coming days because I don\u2019t have anything left to give the organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>JC Tretter at a press conference in 2022. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Tretter, who had been in his role with the union since October 2024, played eight NFL seasons as a center with the Browns and Packers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was the NFLPA\u2019s player president in 2023 and oversaw the process that led to the hiring of the now-disgraced Howell, who stepped down amid reports over a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/09\/sports\/nfl-union-kept-players-in-dark-over-key-details-from-bombshell-collusion-decision\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">controversial confidentiality agreement<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/18\/sports\/lloyd-howell-jr-s-pricy-strip-club-adventures-exposed-before-nflpa-resignation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pricey strip club outings he expensed to the union<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lloyd Howell Jr. stepped down as NFLPA executive director on July 17. Lev Radin\/Pacific Press\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the guys, and that\u2019s why I\u2019ve done what I\u2019ve done for the last six years is because I love what they do and who they are and the mission of the organization,\u201d Tretter said. \u201cAnd I think what I realized this morning when I woke up \u2014 after finally getting more than like two hours of sleep \u2014 is that I fell in love with the idea of what this place could be. And over the last six weeks, I\u2019ve realized what this place is, and the delta between those two things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I can\u2019t walk into the building anymore, seeing and understanding what I see and understand now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the interview with CBS Sports, Tretter also revealed that though the NFLPA\u2019s board voted for Howell over former SAG-AFTRA director David White, Howell was not the top choice of the union\u2019s executive committee.<\/p>\n<p>JC Tretter played in the NFL for eight seasons, including five with the Browns.
