Former LSU<\/a> head coach Ed Orgeron<\/a> said he would \u201clove\u201d to be the head coach of the Tigers again. ESPN\u2019s Evan Cohen asked him straight up on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d love to,\u201d Orgeron said on ESPN\u2019s Unsportsmanlike.<\/a> \u201cAre you kidding me? I just gotta get in my truck, I\u2019ll be there today!\u201d<\/p>\n

Orgeron hasn\u2019t coached since he led the Tigers from 2016-21 as their head coach prior to Brian Kelly<\/a>. Kelly was fired this week following a loss to Texas A&M<\/a> in the middle of his fourth season.<\/p>\n

During his time as LSU\u2019s head coach, Orgeron went 51-20, including a 15-0 mark in 2019 as LSU won the College Football Playoff National Championship with one of the greatest teams ever assembled.<\/p>\n

Previously, Orgeron said he was open to being an assistant coach to return to college football. The fact remains, he just wants to be on a sideline doing what he loves: coaching players, recruiting and winning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want a fit. I\u2019m not going to take just anything, and not everybody\u2019s going to take me,\u201d Orgeron told On3\u2019s Andy Staples.<\/a> \u201cIt may be a head coach job. It may be a defensive line job with someone that I believe can win a championship \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I interview, I want them to want me as much as I want them. I\u2019m a championship coach, and I\u2019m going to bring a winning program to their university.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no doubt Orgeron has a championship mentality. In his first four years with LSU, he went 40-9 and won a title in 2019, which was aided by a Heisman campaign from QB Joe Burrow<\/a>. Orgeron\u2019s last two seasons, he went 11-11 and was let go prior to the Texas Bowl in 2021.<\/p>\n

Granted, LSU swung for Kelly but it did not work out and Orgeron can still claim that national title on his resume. Plus, he fits the culture of Baton Rouge, which has been heavily discussed lately.<\/p>\n

For now, LSU is likely to be discussed as the top available job in college football as of now.
