The event was held at the sidelines of the ongoing Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

Now, the Korea Economic Daily is reporting that, as per the apparent dimensions of the Galaxy Z TriFold, the triple-folding smartphone appears to be between 1.2cm and 1.5cm (12mm – 15mm) thick when folded.

This is a tantalizing tidbit. For comparison, Huawei’s Mate XT, the only other competitor to the Galaxy Z TriFold right now, retains a thickness of just 12.8mm when folded.

And, do you know which battery the Mate XT uses? Yes, a silicon-carbon one. Given the similarity between the reported dimensions of the Galaxy Z TriFold and the actual ones of the Huawei Mate XT, I would not be surprised if the TriFold does indeed sport the new battery tech, confirming an earlier rumor.

Unlike the Huawei Mate XT, however, Samsung’s new foldable does not combine inward and outward folds, adopting a U-shaped folding mechanism instead for screen protection. This means that the outer display does not merge with the inner display when the phone is unfurled.

As we reported in a dedicated post recently, the anode within Si/C batteries is able to hold up to 10x as many lithium ions, essentially increasing the battery’s capacity by orders of magnitude relative to a conventional lithium-ion one. To resist fracturing, the anode is further buffered with fracture-resistant carbon nanostructures, resulting in a very thin battery but one that bears a high capacity.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is also expected to sport:

Three batteries, with a combined capacity of over 5,000mAh.

A 200-megapixel primary camera with 100x zoom capabilities.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC.

A titanium shell

Of course, it remains to be seen if the Galaxy Z TriFold does indeed bear Si/C batteries. According to Sammobile, the phone is slated to launch within this year, indicating an imminent launch cadence. As such, given the phone’s reported dimensions, it is fairly reasonable to assume the existence of silicon-carbon batteries within its high-tech frame.

Follow Wccftech on Google or add us as a preferred source, to get our news coverage and reviews in your feeds.

Samsung finally removed the proverbial wraps on its much-anticipated Galaxy Z TriFold on Tuesday, revealing a fairly thin…

[41
165,74
0":"post-259963","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mobile","8":"tag-mobile","9":"tag-technology
["GET
