LAKEWOOD, Ohio — The city is looking ahead to a storm sewer outfall project involving Nicholson Avenue and Wilbert Road in an effort to curb Lake Erie shoreline erosion. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s next on our list for outfall rehab and repairs,\u201d Lakewood Public Works Director Chris Gordon said. \u201cAn outfall storm sewer drains right out into Lake Erie.<\/p>\n
\u201cNicholson outfall collects from Detroit Avenue, while Wilbert Road outfall collects from Clifton Boulevard. <\/p>\n
\u201cBoth outfall projects are revetment work to assist with erosion control. Also, both outfalls are storm sewers that can become combined sewers at times.\u201d<\/p>\n
While both infrastructure projects have been on the city\u2019s radar dating back to a 2017 inspection, Gordon stressed that there isn\u2019t any particular issue limiting capacity. <\/p>\n
That\u2019s why the work is planned for 2027, with the estimated $7.8 million project currently in a design and permitting process. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going for an Ohio Coastal Management Assistance Grant (CMAC),\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.\u201d<\/p>\n
The city is also in the process of submitting a grant application to the Ohio Public Works Commission\u2019s (OPWC) State Capital Improvement Program. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is just a large infrastructure project that is needed,\u201d Gordon said. <\/p>\n

Speaking of large infrastructure projects in Lakewood, the city is nearing completion of its Interceptor Tunnel Rehabilitation Project<\/a>. <\/p>\n The interceptor collects around 75 percent of Lakewood\u2019s wastewater and stormwater, which is then sent for treatment at the wastewater treatment plant before being released into the environment. <\/p>\n The roughly $27 million project involves relining the 19,000-foot interceptor, which ranges in depth from 20 feet at the east end of Lakewood to 94 feet at the west end.<\/p>\n \u201cThe interceptor project should be getting completed within the next month,\u201d Gordon said. <\/p>\n Read more news from the Sun Post Herald<\/a>. <\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
