{"id":262303,"date":"2025-10-31T06:21:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T06:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/262303\/"},"modified":"2025-10-31T06:21:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T06:21:11","slug":"jesse-eisenberg-on-not-returning-for-the-social-network-sequel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/262303\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesse Eisenberg on Not Returning for &#8216;The Social Network&#8217; Sequel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jesse-eisenberg\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jesse-eisenberg_1\" data-tag=\"jesse-eisenberg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jesse Eisenberg<\/a> is leaving his turn as Mark Zuckerberg in the past. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tEisenberg, who played the Facebook CEO in the David Fincher-directed film <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/social-network-review-movie-2010-6050\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/social-network-review-movie-2010-6050\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Social Network<\/a>, surprised fans when it was reported in June that a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/social-network-sequel-in-the-works-with-aaron-sorkin-1236299598\/\">sequel was in the works<\/a>, but Eisenberg wasn\u2019t coming back to play its lead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDuring a Thursday appearance on the Today show, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/now-you-see-me-now-you-dont-trailer-jesse-eisenberg-1236203505\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/now-you-see-me-now-you-dont-trailer-jesse-eisenberg-1236203505\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Now You See Me: Now You Don\u2019t<\/a> star was asked why he wouldn\u2019t return for the second film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/the-social-reckoning\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-social-reckoning_1\" data-tag=\"the-social-reckoning\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Social Reckoning<\/a>. \u201cListen, for reasons that have nothing to do with how amazing that movie will be, really, truthfully,\u201d Eisenberg said. \u201cBut when you play a character, you feel, at some point, you\u2019ve grown into something else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhen asked if he\u2019s outgrown the character, the actor responded, \u201cYeah, something. But it\u2019s a really wonderful movie. I\u2019m friends with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/aaron-sorkin\/\" id=\"auto-tag_aaron-sorkin_1\" data-tag=\"aaron-sorkin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aaron Sorkin<\/a> who wrote and is directing this movie, and all of the reasons that I am not in it are completely unrelated to how brilliant it will be.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe 2010 film scored eight Oscar nominations and won three, including adapted screenplay for Sorkin. The film grossed $226 million globally. Its cast included Eisenberg\u2019s Zuckerberg, Andrew Garfield\u2019s Eduardo Saverin, Justin Timberlake\u2019s Sean Parker and Armie Hammer as the Winklevoss twins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn the upcoming sequel \u2014 which has Aaron Sorkin, writer of the first film, directing and writing for Sony \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jeremy-strong\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jeremy-strong_1\" data-tag=\"jeremy-strong\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Strong<\/a> will play Zuckerberg. \u201cIt\u2019s one of the great scripts I\u2019ve ever read. It speaks to our time, it touches the third rail of everything happening in our world,\u201d Strong <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/jeremy-strong-jesse-eisenberg-zuckerberg-social-network-1236404885\/\">told <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/jeremy-strong-jesse-eisenberg-zuckerberg-social-network-1236404885\/\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> earlier this month. \u201cIt\u2019s a great character \u2014 fascinating, complex \u2014 and I\u2019m approaching it with great care and empathy and objectivity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Succession actor also noted that he hasn\u2019t spoken to Eisenberg about taking over his role. \u201cI think that has nothing to do with what I\u2019m going to do,\u201d Strong told THR.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn addition to Strong, Mikey Madison,\u00a0Jeremy Allen White and\u00a0Bill Burr are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/the-social-reckoning-release-date-social-network-sorkin-1236386361\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/the-social-reckoning-release-date-social-network-sorkin-1236386361\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">among its cast<\/a>. The film takes place 17 years after the original ended. It follows a young Facebook engineer, Frances Haugen (Madison), and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (White), who work together to spotlight the secrets of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/social-network\/\" id=\"auto-tag_social-network_1\" data-tag=\"social-network\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the social network<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Social Reckoning will release in theaters over Columbus Day weekend next year. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Jesse Eisenberg is leaving his turn as Mark Zuckerberg in the past.
