Cecil Brockman resigned Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Brockman, who represented Guilford County, was arrested earlier this month on child sex crimes.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rep. Cecil Brockman has resigned his seat. He&#8217;s in jail facing sex crimes with a child. It comes right after the Speaker named a committee to potentially expel him. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/A8OuyO2Cl6\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/A8OuyO2Cl6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tim Boyum (@TimBoyumTV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimBoyumTV\/status\/1984371877624889854?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">October 31, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am glad that Rep. Brockman has voluntarily resigned from the General Assembly,&#8221; House Democratic Leader Robert Reives said. &#8220;The allegations against him are serious and made it impossible for him to adequately represent his constituents. I look forward to the Guilford County Democrats appointing his successor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Guilford County Democrats will pick Brockman&#8217;s replacement and Gov. Josh Stein will approve it. That person will fill the seat until next year&#8217;s election.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after a committee to potentially expel him was named Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rep. Brockman\u2019s decision to resign is the right thing to do for his constituents and for the North Carolina House of Representatives.
