\n\tWoody Harrelson<\/a> has bad news for \u201cTrue Detective<\/a>\u201d fans. Speaking on \u201cToday\u201d while promoting his new movie, \u201cNow You See Me: Now You Don\u2019t,\u201d the actor said there is \u201cno chance\u201d of reuniting with Matthew McConaughey<\/a> for a new season centered on Season 1 protagonists Rust Cohle and Marty Harty. Both actors were Emmy nominated for their roles in the debut season, which aired in winter 2014 on HBO. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA lot of folks want to know if there will ever be another \u2018True Detective\u2019 with you and Matthew McConaughey,\u201d \u201cToday\u201d co-host Dylan Dreyer said. \u201c[McConaughey] actually said he would be into it if \u2018Woody and I think it\u2019s good enough. It wouldn\u2019t even be a choice.\u2019 Would you do another one?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMatthew\u2019s so funny,\u201d Harrelson replied. \u201cIn fairness, never. No chance\u2026 Because it turned out great. I love that it turned out the way it did, and if anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTrue Detective\u201d creator Nic Pizzolatto\u00a0said on the\u00a0\u201cNothing Left Unsaid\u201d podcast<\/a>\u00a0in May that he has an idea for a new story that would bring back the characters of Rust Cohle and Marty Harty. McConaughey told Variety<\/a> soon after that he would be open to coming back depending on the script.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe nailed that first season,\u201d McConaughey said. \u201cBut if it\u2019s a script like that first one, with that fire and originality, I\u2019d do it. And you talk about monologues. Well, Rust Cohle had a monologue. He talked about everything that was inside him, and he didn\u2019t care if you were listening or not. There\u2019s freedom in that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPizzolatto described his idea for a new Rust-Marty \u201cTrue Detective\u201d season as \u201ccharacter-based again. \u2026 But it\u2019s not something I\u2019ve written or anything. It\u2019s just, I had that in my head. And we\u2019ve talked about getting back together and doing it, and I think the guys are open to it. It\u2019s just a question of whether that would ever happen or not.\u201d<\/p>\n
