\n Artificial intelligence is everywhere and the music charts are no different.\n <\/p>\n
\n According to Billboard<\/a>, an AI singer named Xania Monet is \u201cthe first known AI artist to earn enough radio airplay to debut on a Billboard radio chart.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n So far, Monet has appeared on multiple Billboard charts since first releasing a song in summer 2025, including the Hot Gospel Songs (for her song \u201cLet Go, Let God\u201d) and the Hot R&B Songs chart (for her song \u201cHow Was I Supposed to Know\u201d), according to the publication.\n <\/p>\n \n Now, she\u2019s been signed to a multimillion-dollar record deal with Hallwood Media after what Billboard called \u201ca bidding war.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n Hollywood has long been worried about the ramifications of AI performers taking work from humans. (See the recent controversy over AI actress Tilly Norwood.<\/a>) But as loud as the concerns might be, AI continues to grow in the arts.\n <\/p>\n \n With more than 146,000 followers on Instagram alone<\/a>, Monet is proof that consumers are increasingly open to the idea, even if the industry is riled by it.\n <\/p>\n \n Monet\u2019s Apple Music artist profile explains that Monet is \u201can Al figure presented as a contemporary R&B vocalist in the highly expressive, church-bred, down-to-earth vein of Keyshia Cole, K. Michelle, and Muni Long.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n Monet was designed by Telisha Nikki Jones, a poet from Mississippi who writes the lyrics Monet is seen performing with help from Suno, \u201ca generative artificial intelligence music creation program,\u201d the bio explains.\n <\/p>\n \n Monet released a full-length album \u201cUnfolded\u201d in August, which had 24 songs. A seven-track EP, \u201cPieces Left Behind,\u201d followed in September.\n <\/p>\n \n A press release from Monet\u2019s representative touted the AI singer\u2019s \u201csmooth, soulful sound\u201d and \u201chuman-like delivery.\u201d But Romel Murphy, who says he\u2019s Monet\u2019s manager and spoke with CNN\u2019s Victor Blackwell,<\/a> insisted that there is no intent to replace human singers and songwriters.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cAI doesn\u2019t replace the artist. That\u2019s not our goal at all. It doesn\u2019t diminish the creativity and doesn\u2019t take away from the human experience,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a new frontier and like anything would change some people are receptive and some people are apprehensive.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n Billboard recently reported that \u201cin just the past few months, at least six AI or AI-assisted artists have debuted on various Billboard rankings.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cThat figure could be higher, as it\u2019s become increasingly difficult to tell who or what is powered by AI \u2014 and to what extent,\u201d according to the publication. \u201cMany of these charting projects, whose music spans every genre from gospel to rock to country, also arrive with anonymous or mysterious origins.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n Murphy doesn\u2019t appear to see an issue and likens it all to the music of Michael Jackson and Prince, who died in 2009 and 2016 respectively.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cThey both have music catalogs that are expanding decades to this day. Youth are still listening to those songs and they\u2019re no longer with us and they\u2019re connected to their music,\u201d Murphy said. \u201cSo it is the music because they don\u2019t have the history of the contact or the concert live field, but they still love those songs. Music has to evolve as well.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cWe just have to keep the integrity and be intentional about the realness of it and push the music to the world,\u201d he added.\n <\/p>\n \n CNN has reached out to Monet\u2019s representative for comment.\n <\/p>\n \n Meanwhile, working musicians are \u2013 as expected\u2013 troubled.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cThere is an AI R&B artist who just signed a multimillion-dollar deal \u2026 and the person is doing none of the work,\u201d Kehlani said<\/a> of Monet in a now-deleted video posted to TikTok. \u201cThis is so beyond out of our control.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n The human singer added: \u201cNothing and no one on Earth will ever be able to justify AI to me.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
