\n\tWhen Donald Trump was first elected president in 2016, Jennifer Lawrence<\/a> said her \u201chead exploded.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tAnd the former Republican, who grew up in Kentucky, a state that voted for Trump in 2016, 2020 and 2024, passionately spoke out against Trump repeatedly during his first term, even saying back in 2015 that if he was elected it would be \u201cthe end of the world.\u201d Lawrence supported Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016 and endorsed Trump\u2019s 2020 and 2024 opponents, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. She even knocked on doors for Harris in Las Vegas a year ago<\/a>, just days before the 2024 election.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut now, amid a more reflective approach to her public comments and persona<\/a>, she\u2019s questioning if she should speak out against the president.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t really know if I should,\u201d Lawrence told The New York Times<\/a> on the outlet\u2019s The Interview podcast<\/a>. \u201cDuring the first Trump administration, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we\u2019ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for. So then what am I doing? I\u2019m just sharing my opinion on something that\u2019s going to add fuel to a fire that\u2019s ripping the country apart. We are so divided.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe also indicated she\u2019s conscious of how her audience might react to what she says.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think I\u2019m in a complicated recalibration because I\u2019m also an artist. I don\u2019t want to start turning people off to films and to art that could change consciousness or change the world because they don\u2019t like my political opinions,\u201d she added. \u201cI want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I\u2019m doing. And if I can\u2019t say something that\u2019s going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I don\u2019t want to be a part of the problem. I don\u2019t want to make the problem worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLawrence\u2019s recent comments echo what she told Vanity Fair in 2018<\/a> when she explained why she avoided discussing politics prior to Trump\u2019s rise to power.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve always thought that it was a good idea to stay out of politics,\u201d she said. \u201cTwenty-five percent of America identifies as liberal and I need more than 25 percent of America to go see my movies. It\u2019s not wise, career-speaking, to talk about politics. When Donald Trump got sworn into office, that fucking changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with Oprah Winfrey for The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> near the end of the first year of Trump\u2019s first term, she shared her fantasy of confronting him in public.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve got a pretty good speech. And it ends with a martini to the face,\u201d she said amid laughter. \u201cI have something to say for all of them. I watch different characters on the news, and I\u2019m like, \u2018You just wait.\u2019 \u2026 I\u2019ve been waiting for this moment. I\u2019ll give you a hint \u2014 it\u2019s not nice. You wouldn\u2019t want me to say it to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen she endorsed Harris a little over a year ago, Lawrence specifically cited the issue of reproductive rights, which she\u2019s consistently voiced her support for.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAbortion is literally on the ballot,\u201d Lawrence told People at the time<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m voting for Kamala Harris because I think she\u2019s an amazing candidate, and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights. That\u2019s the most important thing, is to not let somebody into the White House who is going to ban abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShortly after Roe v. Wade was overturned, Lawrence, who revealed that she planned on having an abortion when she got pregnant in her 20s before she miscarried, told Vogue that she \u201ccan\u2019t fuck with people who aren\u2019t political anymore,\u201d because the state of the country is \u201ctoo dire\u201d and \u201cpolitics are killing people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSpeaking to The Times recently, Lawrence, who next stars opposite Robert Pattinson in Lynne Ramsay\u2019s Die My Love<\/a><\/a>, that she hoped to make an impact politically via her work.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI try to express my politics through my work,\u201d she noted. \u201cA lot of movies coming out from my production company are expressions of the political landscape and that\u2019s how I feel like I can be helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIndeed, in recent years her production company Excellent Cadaver, has supported two documentaries about women\u2019s rights: the Malala Yousafzai co-produced Bread and Roses<\/a>, about women in Afghanistan\u2019s experiences under the Taliban, and Zurawski v Texas<\/a>, about a group of plaintiffs suing the state of Texas over its restrictive abortion laws, co-produced by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for Trump, Lawrence said, \u201cThe second term feels different. Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear.
