\n\tAs IT: Welcome to Derry<\/a> hits the ground running on HBO<\/a>, the show\u2019s two-part debut week comes after the Hollywood strikes<\/a> forced production to pause for eight months.<\/p>\n

\n\tCo-creator Barbara Muschietti<\/a> estimated that \u201c90% of three episodes\u201d had been filmed before production shut down amid the WGA<\/a> and SAG-AFTRA<\/a> strikes in 2023, creating several logistical issues for the show\u2019s storyline.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe suddenly had to work in different seasons,\u201d she explained to SFX Magazine<\/a>. \u201cThis is a summer show, but suddenly it wasn\u2019t a summer show any more. We had to create a different finale with a different climate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAdditionally, Muschietti noted, \u201cThe kids were growing. Voices were changing. Schedules of actors suddenly became hellish. So it was a huge challenge for the studio as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe strikes ended when the WGA reached an agreement<\/a> with the AMPTP in September 2023, followed by SAG-AFTRA<\/a> that November.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cListen, I support the writers and the actors,\u201d added Muschietti. \u201cBut for the people that were in the process of shooting, it was complicated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing the show\u2019s debut earlier in the week, which amassed 5.7M U.S. viewers<\/a> in the first three days, the second episode of\u00a0IT: Welcome to Derry was made available early<\/a> in celebration of Halloween.
