Virgil van Dijk<\/a> addressed Wayne Rooney\u2019s criticism of his leadership as he spoke alongside the former Manchester United and England captain after Liverpool\u2019s 1-0 Champions League<\/a> win over Real Madrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alexis Mac Allister<\/a> struck the only goal in the second half at Anfield as Arne Slot<\/a>\u2018s side recorded back-to-back wins after a sequence of six defeats in seven games.<\/p>\n

Van Dijk stood alongside Amazon Prime pundit Rooney, who had been critical of the Dutchman\u2019s leadership, as the Reds captain spoke to the broadcaster after the contest.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a world of chaos you have to stay calm and try and take the right perspective,\u201d Van Dijk said on Amazon Prime.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt times the noise was a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

When asked if he was looking at anyone of the pundits in particular, Van Dijk said: \u201cNot at all. But I think it\u2019s very important to put things into perspective.<\/p>\n

\u201cKeep your head down and work and get out of the situation because quality is what we have. That\u2019s not the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think all of you here know that you\u2019re dealing with a squad of 25 players and everyone lives a different life, so for me personally it doesn\u2019t affect me.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as a captain I\u2019m dealing with players who might be affected by it.<\/p>\n

\"LIVERPOOL,<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you lose four games in a row, as a Liverpool player, then there\u2019s fair criticism \u2013 that\u2019s absolutely normal, in that sense.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I think it\u2019s over the top at times as well. We live in a world where there\u2019s so many platforms, so many people can say stuff and it gets picked up and made bigger than what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rooney said in response: \u201cWhen you win the Premier League<\/a>, I think what I said was fair. You don\u2019t expect Liverpool to lose four games in a row.<\/p>\n
