{"id":273284,"date":"2025-11-05T15:43:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T15:43:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/273284\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T15:43:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T15:43:15","slug":"google-proposes-reduced-play-store-fees-easy-android-17-install","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/273284\/","title":{"rendered":"Google proposes reduced Play Store fees, easy Android 17 install"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t<img width=\"1600\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Google-Play-Store-4.jpg\" class=\"skip-lazy wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Google has submitted a proposal to \u201cfix\u201d the Play Store following its loss in the Epic Games court case, and the changes include better third-party app store support and reduced, but more complex, fees in the Play Store.<\/p>\n<p>Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem at Google, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ssamat\/status\/1985920218602918343\" rel=\"nofollow\">confirmed last night <\/a>that the company had \u201cfiled a proposed set of changes to Android and Google Play\u201d that will be discussed with the case\u2019s Judge on Thursday, Nomveber 6. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TimSweeneyEpic\/status\/1985920786545123613\" rel=\"nofollow\">called<\/a> the proposal \u201cawesome\u201d and a \u201ccomprehensive solution\u201d that \u201cstands in contrast to Apple\u2019s model of blocking all competing stores.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, what is in Google\u2019s proposal?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/boards-policy-regulation\/google-proposes-app-store-reforms-settlement-with-fortnite-maker-epic-games-2025-11-05\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters <\/a>reports that Google would \u201callow users to more easily download and install third-party app stores\u201d while also changing Play Store fees to a 9% or 20% \u201cservice fee\u201d for Play Store-distributed apps that use alternative payment options. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/policy\/813991\/epic-google-proposed-settlement\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Verge<\/a> offered further details including:<\/p>\n<p>\tAdvertisement &#8211; scroll for more content<\/p>\n<p>The 9% service fee applies to general purchases, seemingly subscriptions, where the 20% fee applies to a purchase that provides \u201cmore than a de minimis gameplay advantage\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Google Play Billing fees will be just 5%, down from the current 15% for the first $1 million of revenue per year, which then raises to 30% for further revenue<\/p>\n<p>Alternative payment options can be shown in apps alongside Google Play Billing<\/p>\n<p>Starting with \u201ca version of the next major Android release\u201d (i.e. an Android 17 release), Google will allow users to \u201cinstall a Registered App Store from a website by clicking on a single store install screen using neutral language.
