Coronation Street writer Jan McVerry has hinted at a return for Mick and Lou Michaelis, just months after the controversial couple were locked up in prison. <\/p>\n

Appearing on the Stateside Street podcast<\/a> last week, McVerry said: “We brought in the Michaelis family, him [Mick] and Lou, [it was] very explosive, hit the ground running.<\/p>\n

“The viewers hated them, but they brought a lot of drama with them, and they’ve left us a great legacy with Brody. It’s not the end of the family,” she continued. “We are going to hear from them again.” <\/p>\n

Played by Joe Layton<\/a> and Farrel Hegarty<\/a>, Mick and Lou Michaelis were introduced in February 2025, with the characters billed as “nightmare neighbours”<\/a>, following their move to Mawdsley Street. <\/p>\n

After it was revealed that Mick had been abusing Lou at home, Mick was eventually arrested for the murder of PC Craig Tinker<\/a> (Colson Smith) in May, and while Mick managed to orchestrate a prison break in July<\/a>, attacking his long-time enemy Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) in the process, he was eventually caught and taken back to his cell. <\/p>\n

As for Lou, the character found herself in a similar situation after it was revealed that she had attacked Gary Windass (Mikey North), putting him in a coma. With Lou locked up in July, the mum-of-three decided to leave her children \u2013 Joanie (Savanna Pennington), Shanice (Molly Kilduff) and Brody (Ryan Mulvey) \u2013 in the care of foster parents Sally (Sally Dynevor) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine)<\/a>, thus concluding her arc. <\/p>\n

According to McVerry, the writers had always known that they had limited time to tell the Michaelis’ story, particularly in the case of Mick. <\/p>\n

“Our hands were tied with Mick, who I thought was a really, really good actor because he had another job to go to,” she noted. <\/p>\n

“He had some theatre work to go to, unfortunately for us, so we knew there was a ticking clock, and at this point, we were going to have to release the actor. Sometimes that’s really helpful, because you know that you’re going to crank up the pace of the story and it’s going to end there, and it’s very helpful to know that you’ve got something to work towards. Personally, I was also gutted because I thought he was such a good actor.”<\/p>\n
