CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A federal grand jury has handed down 10 charges in an indictment against a suspended Charleston attorney and former state House member.<\/p>\n
Marvin Pendarvis faces four counts of wire fraud, three counts of aggravated identity theft, two counts of promotion and concealment money laundering and one count of engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity, according to court documents. <\/p>\n
The South Carolina Supreme Court suspended Pendarvis\u2019 license to practice law<\/a> in May of 2024 after the filing of a lawsuit that alleged he witnessed the forgery<\/a> of a client\u2019s signature and agreed to a settlement without his client\u2019s knowledge.<\/p>\n The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed in April of 2024 that it had begun an investigation into Pendarvis at the request of the First Circuit Solicitor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n Pendarvis, who represented South Carolina House District 113 since 2017, resigned from his seat back in November, the Charleston County Board of Elections said.<\/p>\n This is a developing story.
