Less than 24 hours after LSU President Dr. Wade Rousse removed the interim tag from Verge Ausberry\u2019s title, the new leader appears to be backtracking.<\/p>\n
In an interview Wednesday with Piper Hutchinson of the Louisiana Illuminator, Rousse confirmed he will remove the interim tag and assess later. \u201cI can\u2019t make a very good decision (about that) after being on the job for eight hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t make a very good decision after being on that on the job for eight hours\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014 Piper Hutchinson (@ByPiperHutch) November 5, 2025<\/a>\n<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know what permanent means versus removing the interim,\u201d Rousse added.<\/p>\n Ausberry, a longtime LSU athletics administrator, was promoted to interim athletic director Friday after Scott Woodward and LSU mutually agreed to part ways<\/a> last Thursday. He was given full authority<\/a> by the Board of Supervisors to hire the school\u2019s new football coach.<\/p>\n Woodward\u2019s decision to step away came after Gov. Jeff Landry directed heavy criticism at the AD for Brian Kelly\u2019s $53 million buyout. Landry said he would not allow Woodward<\/a> to hire Kelly\u2019s replacement.<\/p>\n Rousse was selected Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors as the school\u2019s next president. It was roughly five hours after his confirmation that news broke of Rousse removing the interim tag from Ausberry\u2019s title.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you\u2019re trying to hire a coach,\u201d Rousse said, \u201cinstability is not healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n \t
