The\u00a0Music Business UK Awards took\u00a0place last night (November 4)\u00a0at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London.<\/p>\n
The sold-out UK-focused ceremony, presented by MBW in association with\u00a0YouTube<\/a>, recognized and celebrated artistic and industry talent across songwriting, production, record labels, music publishers, talent management, and more.<\/p>\n The first major honor of the night went to\u00a0Jody Gerson<\/a>, Chairman and CEO of\u00a0Universal Music Publishing Group<\/a>\u00a0(UMPG), who received the International Executive of the Year award, sponsored by\u00a0PRS For Music<\/a>.<\/p>\n The prestigious\u00a0Sir George Martin Award, meanwhile, went to RCA Records Chairman and CEO,\u00a0Peter Edge<\/a>,\u00a0presented on stage by\u00a0Steve Lacy.<\/p>\n In his acceptance speech, Edge paid tribute to the award\u2019s namesake, telling the audience: \u201cGrowing up in small-town Nuneaton, Warwickshire, I spent hours in my bedroom lost in music. And the Beatles were part of the firmament. They\u2019ve remained that for me, a touchstone I\u2019ve gone back to time and again throughout my career.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cSo tonight, to have my name spoken in the same sentence as Sir George Martin\u2019s \u2014 I\u2019m beyond humbled.\u201d<\/p>\n Edge also shared\u00a0\u201ca few guiding pillars\u201d that he\u2019s tried to follow during his career. \u201cThe first and most important pillar,\u201d said Edge, is to \u201ctrust the artists\u201d. The second is \u201cto be patient as they grow\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd finally,\u201d he added, \u201cwhen you\u2019re working with artists, you\u2018ve got to\u00a0be willing to take risks with them. They\u2019re so often ahead of the culture. But the true greats, they change the culture.\u201d<\/p>\n He also thanked \u201ceveryone who\u2019s supported [him] over the years and made this journey possible,\u201d and gave a shout-out to his \u201cSony Music<\/a>\u00a0family\u201d, including \u201cRob Stringer<\/a>,\u00a0Jason Iley<\/a>, Fleck [John Fleckenstein] & the whole team at RCA\u201d.<\/p>\n Other big winners of the night included\u00a0Capitol<\/a>\u00a0Records UK, which scooped the\u00a0Major Label: UK A&R Team Of The Year\u00a0award off the back of successes with the likes of\u00a0Olivia Dean\u00a0and\u00a0Sammy Virji, while Capitol\u2019s\u00a0Jo Charrington<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Willem\u00a0Ward\u00a0won the\u00a0A&R Of The Year: Pop\u00a0award.<\/p>\n Polydor Label Group, meanwhile, which houses Capitol, Polydor Records, and 0207 Def Jam in the UK, picked up the prize for\u00a0Major Label: UK Record Company\/Group Of The Year,\u00a0and Polydor\u2019s\u00a0Richard O\u2019Donovan\u00a0won in the\u00a0A&R Of The Year: Alternative\u00a0category.<\/p>\n Elsewhere,\u00a0Publisher Of The Year\u00a0(in the \u2018major\u2019 publisher category) was scooped by\u00a0Kobalt<\/a>,\u00a0while the award for Artist\/Label Services company, judged solely on UK-signed independent projects made by the nominees, went to\u00a0The Orchard<\/a>.<\/p>\n Artist Management Company of the Year went to\u00a0Ignition, UROK & Debbie Gwyther\u00a0(in recognition of their joint success with Oasis\u2019 record-breaking global comeback tour), while\u00a0Owain Davies\u00a0(Sam Fender) won individual Manager of the Year honors.<\/p>\n Milk & Honey<\/a>\u00a0won Songwriter\/Producer Management Company of the Year.<\/p>\n In addition to our headline partner YouTube, supporters of this year\u2019s Awards included\u00a0Hipgnosis<\/a>, Milk & Honey,\u00a0PPL<\/a>,\u00a0PRS For Music,\u00a0Spotify<\/a>, TikTok, Vevo and Chorus.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s every winner:<\/p>\n International Executive Of The Year \u2013 supported by PRS For Music<\/p>\n Jody Gerson<\/p>\n Sir George Martin Award<\/p>\n Peter Edge<\/p>\n Producer Of The Year (non-featured) \u2013 Supported by YouTube\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0Zach Nahome <\/p>\n Songwriter Of The Year (non-featured) \u2013 supported by Hipgnosis<\/p>\n Max Wolfgang<\/p>\n A&R Administrator (The Forbesie) \u2013 supported by PPL<\/p>\n Sarah Stern,\u00a0Sony Music UK<\/a><\/p>\n A&R Of The Year: Adult Contemporary<\/p>\n Glyn Aikins<\/a>\u00a0& Joe Iddison, RCA<\/p>\n A&R Of The Year: Dance\/Electronic<\/p>\n
