{"id":274662,"date":"2025-11-06T07:11:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T07:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/274662\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T07:11:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T07:11:07","slug":"2026-te-cooper-mccutchan-decommits-from-north-carolina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/274662\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 TE Cooper McCutchan decommits from North Carolina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cincinnati <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/high-school\/archbishop-moeller-cincinnati-oh-11296\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Archbishop Moeller<\/a> three-star tight end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/cooper-mccutchan-236266\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cooper McCutchan<\/a> has decommitted from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/north-carolina-tar-heels\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">North Carolina<\/a>, he announced on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>He was pledged to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/bill-belichick-132037\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Belichick<\/a> and the Tar Heels since May 7. McCutchan is the second prospect to decommit from UNC today, following three-star wide receiver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/keimaurii-miles-159109\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kei\u2019Maurii Miles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter much consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided to decommit from North Carolina and reopen my recruitment process,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CooperMccutchan\/status\/1986245298398605567\" rel=\"nofollow\">McCutchan wrote on X<\/a> announcing his decision. \u201cI want to sincerely thank everyone at UNC (coaches, staff, and other commits) and I am grateful for the relationships I\u2019ve built. I look forward to exploring new opportunities and continuing my athletic, academic, and personal growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He is the No. 71 tight end and No. 50 player in Ohio in the 2026 cycle, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/rankings\/industry-player\/football\/2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rivals Industry Ranking<\/a>, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He checks in as the No. 1,131 prospect overall.<\/p>\n<p>Before choosing the Tar Heels in May, McCutchan had also reported offers from Kentucky, Wisconsin, Texas A&amp;M, Washington and others. His decision leaves UNC with one tight end \u2014 Nashville DCA three-star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/carson-sneed-176135\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carson Sneed<\/a> \u2014 in its jam-packed 2026 class.<\/p>\n<p>McCutchan plays for one of the most notable high school football programs in Ohio. Archbishop Moeller is currently 7-3 ahead of playoff action and ranks as the No. 5 team in Ohio and No. 102 team nationally, per the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/high-school\/rankings\/football\/ohio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rivals Composite Rankings<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>UNC still has massive 2026 class<\/p>\n<p>Despite losing pledges from Miles and McCutchan, North Carolina still has the biggest recruiting class in the cycle by a wide margin with 37 total commits. There\u2019s 11 blue-chippers in the class. Jackson (Ala.) four-star\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/keeyun-chapman-180736\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Keeyun Chapman<\/a>\u00a0and Bluffton (S.C.) four-star\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/carnell-warren-236207\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carnell Warren<\/a> make for a dynamic wide receiver duo.<\/p>\n<p>Chapman and Warren are the No. 19 and No. 49 receivers in the cycle, respectively. The top-ranked commit in the class remains Detroit Cass Tech four-star athlete\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/cj-sadler-150068\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CJ Sadler<\/a>, who could line up on either side of the ball for the Tar Heels. He\u2019s the No. 131 recruit overall. Loganville (Ga.) Grayson four-star quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/travis-burgess-237810\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Travis Burgess<\/a> committed in May and is now the No. 14 QB in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>The secondary room will be quite loaded in Chapel Hill once this class makes its way to campus, too. Nine listed defensive backs are currently committed, with Miami Norland four-star cornerback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/kenton-dopson-238598\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kenton Dopson<\/a> and Avon (Ohio) four-star safety\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jakob-weatherspoon-237963\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jakob Weatherspoon<\/a>\u00a0leading the way. Dopson flipped from Miami, while Weatherspoon flipped from Ohio State.<\/p>\n<p>Belichick and Co. have flipped myriad prospects this cycle, including: Dopson, Weatherspoon, four-star defensive lineman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/trashawn-ruffin-240681\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trashawn Ruffin<\/a>, four-star offensive tackle\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jb-shabazz-238369\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">J.B.
