Vavrin, reportedly under the influence of an unknown substance, was turned in to authorities by his mother.<\/p>\n<p>According to the New York Post, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/04\/us-news\/teen-hurls-water-at-centuries-old-paintings-at-nycs-met-museum-rips-tapestries-off-wall-cops-sources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Vavrin splashed water on two renowned paintings<\/a>: the 19th-century Princesse de Broglie by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres and the 16th-century Madonna and Child with Saints by Girolamo dai Libri. He also tore two historic tapestries from the walls. The damage is estimated at $1,000 per artwork.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Met stated that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/11\/04\/teen-throws-water-historic-paintings-nyc-met-museum-rips-down-tapestry-sources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">no permanent damage was done to the artworks<\/a>, and no individuals were harmed. They expressed gratitude to the museum&#8217;s security staff and the NYPD for maintaining safety.<\/p>\n<p>Vavrin was charged with criminal mischief and is expected to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court.
