(13 News) &#8211; Rattlesnake season is coming to a close, but rattlesnake danger remains strong, and it\u2019s because of the holidays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Jeff Martineau, rattlesnake prevention specialist for Tucson with <a href=\"https:\/\/rattlesnakesolutions.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/rattlesnakesolutions.com\/\">Rattlesnake Solutions<\/a>, said the drop in temperatures, especially around dusk, usually indicates the end of rattlesnake season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cRattlesnakes are going from wherever they spent the summer, to kind of avoid the heat, or hunt,\u201d Martineau said. \u201cThey\u2019re moving and transitioning to places where they\u2019re going to be hibernating or denning for the winter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">And that leads to a common misconception.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe expectation for a lot of people is that the rattlesnakes go away completely,\u201d Martineau said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">But he said that the transition period has shown a spike in rattlesnake movement during this time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">However, he said the main factor behind a spike in encounters comes from people doing things they don\u2019t usually do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cRattlesnake encounters often correlate more so with human behavior than just the rattlesnake behavior,\u201d Martineau said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A perfect example would be packing and unpacking your holiday d\u00e9cor that you usually don\u2019t touch except once or twice a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">This is why Martineau is urging everyone to stay safe and be vigilant when doing so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAs you get into your sheds your garages, into things that you\u2019re just not really accessing very often,\u201d Martineau said. \u201cKind of the dusty corners of the garages so to speak, that\u2019s where you kind of want to watch your hands and make sure you\u2019re looking first because sometimes you get sleeping rattlesnakes.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">If you do find a rattlesnake, be sure to keep your distance and call for help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Martineau said it\u2019s also important to keep an eye on it until someone comes to relocate it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">You can submit your <a href=\"https:\/\/ugc.zeam.com\/app\/gallery?albumId=4152&amp;theme=default\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/ugc.zeam.com\/app\/gallery?albumId=4152&amp;theme=default\" target=\"_blank\">breaking news or weather images here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 13 News.
