Fetch your sleeveless jean jacket, strap on a Swatch and run a heaping handful of mousse through your hair. An iconic Newberg<\/a> establishment<\/a> is giving the public an opportunity to jump back a few decades<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 99W Drive-In Theatre<\/a> is throwing an 80s flashback party this weekend by projecting two silver screen classics from 1985: \u201cBack to the Future\u201d followed by \u201cThe Breakfast Club.\u201d<\/p>\n

In case you\u2019ve lived under a rock, \u201cBack to the Future\u201d is the sci-fi comedy that sends Marty McFly, typical teenager of 1985, 30 years into the past. He escapes the romantic advances of his teenage mother, aids Reverend Jim from \u201cTaxi\u201d in a plutonium heist, and butches up his socially awkward father in order to correct timeline anomalies that would cause him to cease from existence. A family classic.<\/p>\n

Then comes \u201cThe Breakfast Club,\u201d a character study of five teenagers who messed with the bull, got the horns, and ended up in Saturday detention. Through the exchange of insults and the bond of disrespecting adults, they become fast friends who look past their cliched differences and end up swapping make-up tips. Another timeless gem.<\/p>\n

Both films capture the spirit of the 80s. Nods of long gone soda drinks, super wide skateboards, and cassette playing Walkmans will send folks in their mid-fifties back to some nostalgic happy spots. And of course, both feature chart-topping hits to jolt some memories. Huey Lewis and the News\u2019 \u201cThe Power of Love\u201d and Simple Minds\u2019 \u201cDon\u2019t You\u201d were each written specifically for their respective films. Both hit #1 in the U.S. Billboards in 1985.<\/p>\n

Universal Pictures is promoting the theatrical re-release of Back to the Future in honor of the film\u2019s 40th anniversary.<\/p>\n

According to new research from the University of Southampton<\/a>, feeling nostalgic about the past will increase optimism about the future. So when Universal Pictures invites audiences to \u201cturn back the clock and ride into the future\u201d for this 40th anniversary screening, it\u2019s the perfect excuse to relive the magic all over again.<\/p>\n

Spark up the DeLorean and make your way to the drive-in \u2014 as George McFly might say, \u201cit could be your density… I mean your destiny.”<\/p>\n
