In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/1986514377470845007\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">lengthy post on X<\/a> on Thursday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman publicly clarified the totals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe expect to end this year above $20 billion in annualized revenue run rate and grow to hundreds of billion by 2030. We are looking at commitments of about $1.4 trillion over the next 8 years,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/1986514377470845007\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">he wrote.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the post was largely a response to a brouhaha over comments his CFO made, and quickly walked back, concerning <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/11\/06\/sam-altman-says-he-doesnt-want-the-government-to-bail-out-openai-if-it-fails\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">government-backstopped loans<\/a>, Altman also listed a number of future business plans he believes will generate significant revenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said OpenAI has an upcoming enterprise offering. Earlier this week, OpenAI said <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/1-million-businesses-putting-ai-to-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">it already had a million business customers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He named consumer devices and robotics. In May,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/05\/21\/jony-ive-to-lead-openais-design-work-following-6-5b-acquisition-of-his-company\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI acquired Jony Ive\u2019s io<\/a>, and they are <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/10\/05\/openai-and-jony-ive-may-be-struggling-to-figure-out-their-ai-device\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly working on<\/a> a palm-sized AI device.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Altman mentioned scientific discovery as an upcoming business. Not much is known about it yet, except that OpenAI VP Kevin Weil\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/kevinweil_im-starting-something-new-inside-openai-activity-7368704715615891456-cIG3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">mentioned a newly launched OpenAI for Science<\/a> some months ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Altman also said OpenAI could become a cloud computing provider: \u201cWe are also looking at ways to more directly sell compute capacity to other companies (and people); we are pretty sure the world is going to need a lot of \u2018AI cloud\u2019, and we are excited to offer this.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Techcrunch event<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSan Francisco<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t|<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOctober 13-15, 2026\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s a bold idea for a company that doesn\u2019t yet have its own network of data centers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond revenue, Altman noted that the company may also pay for its needs the old-fashioned way: selling more equity or taking on more loans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Rarely has a month gone by in 2025 without OpenAI signing another multibillion-dollar data center deal.
