This week, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a> sat down with Vogue<\/a> for a wide-ranging chat. At one point during the conversation, he discussed his desire to have children one day \u2014 though, in the process, he made some very divisive comments about people who choose to remain child-free<\/a>.\"Timoth\u00e9e<\/p>\n

The Vogue writer<\/a> noted that Timmy recalled watching someone he refused to name \u201cbragging about not having kids and how much time it afforded them to do other stuff\u201d in an interview.\"Timoth\u00e9e<\/p>\n

Timmy and his friend, who were watching the interview together, “turned to each other, ‘Like, holy shit. Oh my God. Bleak.'” The author noted that while Timmy acknowledged that some people \u201ccan\u2019t have children or are never in a position to,\u201d he believes that \u201cprocreation is the reason we\u2019re here.\u201d\"Timoth\u00e9e<\/p>\n

For a little additional context, Timmy has been in a relationship with Kylie Jenner \u2014 who shares two children with her ex, Travis Scott \u2014 for the past two years. Earlier this year, a source claimed that Kylie would \u201clove to have another baby\u201d<\/a> with Timoth\u00e9e at some point in the future, and in this Vogue interview, the Dune actor confirmed that having children \u201ccould be on the radar.\u201d\"Timoth\u00e9e<\/p>\n

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Timoth\u00e9e\u2019s comments have sparked a wave of backlash online. \u201cEasy sentiment to hold when you\u2019re not the one cranking the baby out of your own body,\u201d one person said<\/a>, while another user echoed<\/a>, \u201cIf I were a man and didn\u2019t have to actually birth children myself, the thought of having children would be a much easier decision.\u201d\"Timoth\u00e9e<\/p>\n

One person pointed out<\/a>, \u201cEasy sentiment when you don’t have to worry about the world you’re bringing children into because you are protected by your privilege, fame, and wealth.\u201d Another user echoed<\/a>, \u201cAnd being privileged enough that having a baby doesn’t consume all of your time and money. Such a gross take,\u201d while someone else wrote<\/a>, \u201cHUGE turn off. Like I\u2019ll never see him the same way again.\u201d\"Timoth\u00e9e<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish society would stop obsessing over whether or not people have kids. Either choice is fine, I get a little annoyed with the narrative that life without children is \u2018bleak,\u2019\u201d one person said<\/a>, while other users described Timmy\u2019s take as \u201cnightmarish\u201d<\/a> and \u201cclose-minded.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Amid the discourse, numerous child-free people shared their opinions on Timmy\u2019s comments. \u201cI have never wanted kids and I would not describe my life as bleak lol. I do enjoy children and being an auntie is cool but I love giving them back\u2026 It’s weird to me that people think being childfree is sad but I’m still grateful every day that I have cats instead of kids,\u201d one person said<\/a>. Another user wrote<\/a>, \u201cI would probably want kids if I were a man! Instead, as a woman who doesn’t want kids, I get to have men who’ve never changed a fucking nappy or bathed a wailing toddler act superior towards me because they want someone to give birth to a kid for them.\u201d\"Timoth\u00e9e<\/p>\n

\u201ci personally enjoy being able to do what i want when i want and i feel like people should stop dunking on childfree people. because god forbid we say anything about people and their kids. keep the same energy,\u201d someone else shared<\/a>, while another comment read<\/a>, \u201cAs a childless woman\u2026 If I just got to do the fun part without the giving birth part, I’d have multiple kids, lol.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDescribing choosing not to have kids as \u2018bleak,\u2019 especially when women\u2019s rights to choose not to have kids are being taken away is a bad take, to say the least,\u201d one more comment read<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, several users speculated that Timoth\u00e9e was throwing shade at Seth Rogen<\/a>, who has been very outspoken about his and his wife Lauren Miller\u2019s decision to remain child-free<\/a>.\"Lauren<\/p>\n

\u201cThere’s a whole huge thing I’m not doing, which is raising children,\u201d Seth said<\/a> back in 2023. When asked if he thought he\u2019d be \u201chappier\u201d with kids, Seth firmly replied, \u201cI don’t think it would. I\u2019ve been around obviously a lot of children, I’m not ignorant to what it\u2019s like. \u2026 Everyone I know has kids. I’m 40, you know? \u2026 I mean, a lot of people have kids before they even think about it, from what I’ve seen honestly. You just are told, you go through life, you get married, you have kids \u2014 it\u2019s what happens.\u201d\"Seth<\/p>\n

\u201cMe and my wife, neither of us were like that,\u201d he continued. \u201cHonestly, the older we get the more happy and reaffirmed we are with our choice to not have kids. It was something we kind of talked about more, and we were like, \u2018Have we made the right choice? Are we sure?\u2019 Now, more than anything, the conversation is like, \u2018Honestly, thank God we don\u2019t have children.\u2019 We get to do whatever we want.\u201d<\/p>\n

More recently, Seth addressed the wild backlash<\/a> he faced over his comments about remaining child-free. \u201cThe most disturbing comment that I saw a lot of was, \u2018Who\u2019s going to take care of you when you\u2019re old?\u2019 Which, to me, is very telling. Is that why you\u2019re having kids? Because I have two things to say: One, that\u2019s very selfish to create a human so someone can take care of you. And two, just because you have a kid, I hate to break it to you, that doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re going to do that,\u201d he told Esquire<\/a>.\"Seth<\/p>\n
