\n Katseye have only existed for two years, but they have already achieved more than some groups that have been around for much longer.\n <\/p>\n
\n On Friday, members Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Manon Bannerman, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung were nominated in the Grammy\u2019s best new artist category, as well as best pop duo\/group performance. The honor caps what has been a great year so far for the girl group, formed via a reality competition show called \u201cThe Debut: Dream Academy.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n The competition was a partnership with HYBE, a South Korean entertainment company that also manages BTS, and Geffen Records.\n <\/p>\n
\n Their journey was also chronicled in the Netflix documentary, \u201cPop Star Academy: KATSEYE.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Though some elements of K-pop world were incorporated into the group\u2019s formation and training, they call themselves a \u201cglobal group,\u201d nodding to the members\u2019 varied roots.\n <\/p>\n
\n Avanzini, Skiendiel and Raj are all Americans from diverse backgrounds. Bannerman is from Switzerland and of Ghanaian, Swiss and Italian heritage. Laforteza is from Manila, and Jeung is from South Korea.\n <\/p>\n
\n Katseye dropped their first EP, \u201cSIS (Soft Is Strong),\u201d in August 2024, and it included their breakthrough single \u201cTouch.\u201d Their second, \u201cBeautiful Chaos,\u201d was released in June. While both were strong performers \u2013 their latest EP peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart \u2013 it was their starring role in Gap\u2019s viral \u201cBetter in Denim\u201d ad<\/a> that cemented their popularity.\n <\/p>\n \n They take their fairly newfound fame pretty seriously.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cMaking a genuine impact on culture is our biggest goal,\u201d Raj said<\/a> in a recently published BBC Radio 1 interview. \u201cA big thing about us is being versatile. We switch it up with every project we put out. Even on each EP, every song is different and that is important to us.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n After the Grammy nominations were announced, the group took to their Instagram stories<\/a> to express their delight.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cSo honored to be nominated and in this company,\u201d they wrote on a video of 2025 best new artist Grammy winner Chappell Roan introducing the category and its nominations.\n <\/p>\n \n The group\u2019s fellow best new artist nominees included Olivia Dean, The Marias, Addison Rae<\/a>, sombr<\/a>, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren and Lola Young<\/a> \u2013 which you could call some pretty EYE-conic company.\n <\/p>\n
