{"id":278260,"date":"2025-11-08T00:31:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T00:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/278260\/"},"modified":"2025-11-08T00:31:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T00:31:08","slug":"tree-giveaways-planned-for-arbor-day-in-hawai%ca%bbi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/278260\/","title":{"rendered":"Tree Giveaways Planned For Arbor Day In Hawai\u02bbi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(BIVN) \u2013 The annual Arbor Day Celebration returns to Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in Kealakekua on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will feature tree giveaways, a plant sale, informational booths, food demonstrations, agroforest walking tours, music, keiki activities and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Arbor Day in Hawai\u02bbi is officially celebrated on the first Friday in November. The event marks the beginning of the rainy season, the Hawai\u02bbi Department of Land and Natural Resources says, \u201cwhich is an ideal time for planting trees in our island home.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Hawai\u02bbi DLNR is promoting a number of event across Hawai\u02bbi. From a news release:<\/p>\n<p>Hawai\u02bbi communities are invited to join in the annual celebration of trees on November 7 for Arbor Day Hawai\u02bbi. Tree giveaways, planting and educational activities will take place throughout this month.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Josh Green formally proclaimed 2025 as the Year of Our Community Forests, highlighting the importance of the trees where we live, learn and play. These trees provide connection to culture and a sense of place to Hawai\u2018i\u2019s communities. They give us gathering spaces, shade to cool down, food to eat, wood for carving, leaves for weaving, and flowers for lei, among many other benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Kaulunani, the Urban and Community Forestry program of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) supports Arbor Day tree celebration events annually. <\/p>\n<p>Everyone can be a steward of our community forests this Arbor Day. \u201cWhether you adopt a tree at a giveaway, plant and care for trees at a volunteer day, or celebrate trees at a community festival, you\u2019re part of growing the community forest,\u201d said DOFAW Urban and Community Forester Dr. Heather McMillen. \u201cWhen we grow trees, we sustain communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From O\u02bbahu to Hawai\u02bbi Island, Maui Nui to Kaua\u02bbi, festivities span the state.
