The Raiders are shaking things up after an ugly showing on<\/a> \u201cThursday Night Football\u201d this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Las Vegas fired special teams coordinator Tom McMahon, the team announced Friday, less than 24 hours following the mistake-filled showing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier today, we made the tough decision to relieve Tom McMahon of his duties as special teams coordinator,\u201d Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said in a statement released by the team. \u201cI have a great amount of respect for Tom and the work that he has done in this league, but we have decided to move in a different direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

Special teams assistant Derius Swinton II will take over for McMahon, who has been with Las Vegas since 2022.<\/p>\n

The Raiders\u2019 special teams have looked shaky all season, culminating in Thursday\u2019s 10-7 loss<\/a> to the Broncos.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Late in the third quarter, Raiders punter AJ Cole had his kick blocked near the Las Vegas goal line, setting the Broncos up for a go-ahead field goal.<\/p>\n

With less than five minutes to go in the game, Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson missed a 48-yard field goal, albeit in windy conditions, which would have tied the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last week, their special teams unit cost them a shot at beating the Jaguars when Carlson missed an extra point.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Raiders would end up losing that game 30-29 in overtime after a failed two-point conversion attempt at the end of the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In Week 4, Carlson had a potential game-winning 54-yard field goal against the Bears.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
