The Barstool founder does not appreciate his viewership.<\/p>\n
Portnoy ripped into ESPN Thursday following the news that the Worldwide Leader and Penn Entertainment mutually agreed to end their 10-year partnership<\/a>. Portnoy, whose Barstool Sports was previously owned by Penn, saw the end of the arrangement as a massive win for the gambling company<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt just didn\u2019t work. The deal just didn\u2019t work at all,\u201d Portnoy said. \u201cThey paid a lot of money to get results \u2014 big results from ESPN \u2014 and they weren\u2019t even close. I\u2019d argue [Barstool] was more successful when we were pushing and trying than ESPN was. So I think today\u2019s a good day for Penn after a lot of bad days.\u201d<\/p>\n Portnoy repurchased Barstool from Penn for $1<\/a> before the company signed that deal with ESPN.<\/p>\n It\u2019s one of many business arrangements in which his company and the Disney-owned sports network have overlapped, and he has often taken great pleasure in their failures or miscues<\/a>. He said as much during Thursday\u2019s The Unnamed Show<\/a>, including taking a pretty personal shot at Iger.<\/p>\n \u201cI despise ESPN, and don\u2019t want anything to work out for them,\u201d said Portnoy. \u201cI don\u2019t like Bob Iger, I\u2019ll tell you that much. Bob Iger said in a New York Times article\u2026 \u2018a sneaky pet peeve of mine is to watch Dave\u2019s pizza reviews.\u2019 I wish I could take a piece of pizza and slap him across the face with it, so sauce is left all over his face and burns his skin.\u201d<\/p>\n
