\nThis week on the EcoNews Report, we\u2019re excited to share that the
\ncomment period for Eel River dam removal has finally opened! Tune in
\nto hear co-hosts Tom Wheeler of EPIC and Alicia Bales of the Redwood
\nChapter of the Sierra Club talk with Alicia Hamann of Friends of the
\nEel River about this important moment. <\/p>\n

The Wild and Scenic Eel River
\noffers an unparalleled opportunity to restore native fish
\npopulations. With vast, high-quality habitat protected in wild
\nlandscapes and fish that retain their wild genetics, dam removal will
\nreconnect hundreds of miles of prime spawning and rearing habitat,
\nrestore natural sediment flow, reduce methylmercury buildup, and
\nimprove downstream water quality. <\/p>\n

Taking down the Eel River dams is
\nthe single most important step toward recovering the river\u2019s
\nonce-abundant salmon, steelhead, and lamprey runs. Supported by
\nTribes, fishers, recreationists, and conservation groups, the Free
\nthe Eel movement invites everyone to help heal a century of harm and
\nrestore this iconic river. <\/p>\n
