When Enzo Fernandez came off after 83 minutes of a man of the match performance against Wolves, we assumed it was just fatigue that caused the change. But it seems there\u2019s something more behind it.<\/p>\n

Speaking to ESPN after the game, the midfielder revealed that he had asked to be taken off because his ongoing knee problem was causing him pain. He explained that he\u2019s also decided not to go on international duty this coming fortnight so he can rest and be in better shape for the end of the season \u2013 and the subsequent World Cup.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been speaking to the medical team [of the Argentina national team] because I\u2019ve been dealing with a knee problem for four months. I\u2019ve had a bone bruise which has got worse in the last few weeks after playing so many games. Together we took the decision that I should rest these two weeks, knowing how important what comes at the end of the season is.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s fantastic news for Chelsea really. We already got lucky that he played just 78 minutes for his country in the October break, this fortnight off now gives him another crucial chance to recover. South American qualification is done, so it\u2019s just friendly games the midfielder will miss.<\/p>\n
