No punishment was brought as a result of the hit that has sidelined C.J. Stroud<\/a> for the Houston Texans<\/a>\u2019 Week 10 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>. However, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair<\/a> has run afoul of the league office again, and it will cost him.<\/p>\n

An infraction Al-Shaair committed in Week 9 against the Denver Broncos<\/a> has drawn the NFL\u2019s attention in a bad way. For Al-Shaair, it is the latest in an extensive history.<\/p>\n

He is not the only Texans player paying a price, either.<\/p>\n

No Penalty for Broncos CB on C.J. Stroud Hit\"Kris<\/p>\n

Stroud suffered a concussion after hitting his head on the turf during a tackle by Broncos cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine<\/a> as the Texans\u2019 QB slid. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans<\/a> criticized the lack of a call postgame.<\/p>\n

\u201cC.J. scrambled. Of course, he tried to \u2013 he slid, and the guy you know came up and hit him. As I see, it\u2019s unnecessary roughness,\u201d Ryans said<\/a> after the game on November 2. \u201cHe hit the quarterback when he\u2019s sliding and giving himself up. If I\u2019m incorrect on the rule, I\u2019ve seen that happen multiple times, and with our guys, and we get the penalty. But for some reason, it just didn\u2019t happen there.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later offered pointed remarks in the week of preparation that followed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was it\u2019s a tough play,\u201d Ryans told reporters<\/a> on November 3. \u201cQuarterback is sliding. I thought the quarterbacks are protected when they slide. But what I\u2019m learning is, if you hit them, don\u2019t hit them in the head or neck area. They slide, you hit them in the chest, and that\u2019s just fine. So, that\u2019s what I learned.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lack of a fine is in line with Abrams-Draine not drawing a flag during the game, but surely does not sit well with Ryans and Co.<\/p>\n

Plays do not need to draw flags for players to receive fines, either, as the Texans found out.<\/p>\n

Texans LB Azeez Al-Shaair Draws Fine Over Broncos Game\"Azeez<\/p>\n

Al-Shaair received a $17,389 fine for \u201cunnecessary roughness\u201d after a \u201chit on a defenseless player,\u201d J.K. Dobbins<\/a>, during the Texans\u2019 18-15 loss to the Broncos, per the NFL\u2019s Football Operations portal<\/a> on November 19.<\/p>\n

The hit occurred during the fourth quarter on a pass play that Al-Shaair stopped for a 2-yard loss. It did not draw a flag during the contest.<\/p>\n

Al-Shaair has a reputation for toeing the line between physical and excessiveness.<\/p>\n

He received<\/a> an identical $17,389 fine for a hit to the head of Tennessee Titans<\/a> quarterback Cam Ward<\/a> in Week 4 and narrowly avoided another<\/a> in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks<\/a> and Sam Darnold<\/a>. Texans cornerback Derek Stingley was the only one fined in that contest.<\/p>\n

Al-Shaair was notably suspended and lambasted<\/a> by the league over a hit delivered to Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence<\/a> that ended the QB\u2019s 2024 season early.<\/p>\n

Al-Shaair and the Texans host Lawrence and the Jaguars in Week 10.<\/p>\n

Broncos-Texans Proved Costly\"Xavier<\/p>\n

Notably, there were two unnecessary roughness calls during the game, neither so much as involving Al-Shaair, both on the Broncos. Broncos safety Brandon Jones<\/a> and long snapper Mitchell Fraboni<\/a> were both flagged during the game.<\/p>\n

Neither player was fined.<\/p>\n

However, Texans wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson<\/a> was fined $5,949 for \u201cunsportsmanlike conduct\u201d after \u201ctaunting\u201d Jones on a deep pass from Davis Mills<\/a> in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Notably, Mills is stepping in for Stroud<\/a> in Week 10 against the Jaguars, one of two teams against whom the former third-round draft pick (2021) has a winning record as a starter during his career.<\/p>\n
