Roberto Firmino has an heir to his throne and his successor is ready to join Liverpool.

The Brazilian forward will go down as one of the best attackers to have played for the club.

Article continues under the video

Firmino’s success at Anfield was the likes of which we haven’t seen from a player in the 21st century.

He scored a myriad of goals and won even more trophies, contributing to the most successful period of the club’s history in the modern era.

In the process, he became a club icon and a fan favourite. Liverpool fans adored him. Firmino’s eye-catching ability on the ball and his selfless work-rate made him the perfect player.

It’s fair to say that not until Hugo Ekitike has come along, has it felt like that Liverpool have truly replaced him.

The Frenchman is a worthy candidate for the no.9 role at last. But he may soon have competition.

There’s another Firmino developing in Spain who Liverpool should be ready to make a move for.

Let’s introduce you to Selton Sanchez. He’s an 18-year-old attacking midfielder playing for Athletic Bilbao.

The youngster captains the U19 team, where he recently played a key role in beating Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League scoring a goal and registering two assists in a 4-1 victory.

Sanchez also made his debut for Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League, coming on to play around 20 minutes against Newcastle United.

Now this is all well and good. For all you may think, he’s just another exciting teenager in Europe.

But the reason why he’s so intriguing from a Liverpool perspective is because he’s actually Firmino’s cousin.

And blood is not the only thing they have in common. The playing style and talent is also very similar.

Like Firmino, Sanchez is an incredibly gifted footballer. He’s blessed with great vision and exemplary technique that allows him to both be a creator and a goal-scorer.

Like his older cousin, Sanchez is versatile. He can play in midfield and he can play as the no.10.

He also works tirelessly off the ball, and his energy is infectious.

Right now he’s regarded as one of the biggest prospects at Athletic Bilbao, who are renowned for bringing through elite talent.

The fact that he’s a captain of the U19 team and already making his debut is enough to confirm that he’s ready to join a club like Liverpool.

His performances only further confirm that, and considering Michael Edwards loved Firmino, he should be eager to get his cousin, who may be just as good.
