Soundgarden<\/a> was joined by a cavalcade of musical all-stars including Brandi Carlile, Pearl Jam\u2019s Mike McCready, Alice in Chains\u2019 Jerry Cantrell, and Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame<\/a>\u2019s 2025 induction ceremony on Saturday. The surviving members of Soundgarden \u2014 drummer Matt Cameron, guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Ben Shepherd, as well as original bassist Hiro Yamamoto \u2014 welcomed the special guests to the stage for the performances. McCready joined the band on guitar as Momsen took lead on \u201cRusty Cage,\u201d with a powerful vocal tribute to the late Chris Cornell. Carlile then came out to put her striking vibrato onto \u201cBlack Hole Sun,\u201d with Cantell on guitar and Momsen joining in on the iconic refrain.<\/p>\n

After the band\u2019s acceptance speeches<\/a>, there was another tribute performance, as Cornell\u2019s daughter, Toni, was joined by Heart\u2019s Nancy Wilson for an acoustic rendition of \u201cFell on Black Days.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Carlile may seem like a curious choice for Soundgarden, the Washington state native has history with the grunge legends. She performed with the band at the \u201cI Am The Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell\u201d show at The Forum in Los Angeles on January 16, 2019. Carlile handled vocals \u201cBlack Hole Sun\u201d during that show as well, plus Temple of the Dog\u2019s \u201cHunger Strike\u201d with Chris Stapleton and Brendan O\u2019Brien.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to keep it as Seattle-centric as possible and include some people that were there with us in the beginning,\u201d Cameron told Seattle Times<\/a> about the artists asked to join the band for the performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo have our peers, friends and creative collaborators from here share that with us is very important,\u201d added Thayil in the same Seattle Times story. \u201cIt\u2019s very important because it\u2019s part of our identity. We\u2019re not simply \u2018rock guys\u2019 in this band Soundgarden. We\u2019re rock guys in this band Soundgarden that helped establish the Seattle scene and the sound. The geography is very important to our identity. It\u2019s where we are, it\u2019s where we came from. It\u2019s who we are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Soundgarden\u2019s Rock Hall induction comes with the band\u2019s third nomination; they were previously up for the honor in 2020 and 2023 before finally breaking through this year.<\/p>\n

The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class also includes The White Stripes, Bad Company, OutKast, Cyndi Lauper, Chubby Checker, and Joe Cocker in the performer category.<\/p>\n
