An LSU<\/a> fan ran on to the field during the Alabama<\/a> game on Saturday night. He could be facing some significant consequences after being escorted out by police.<\/p>\n

The fan waltzed out past the 30-yard line when a staffer ran over to him. The fan was cooperative, allowing her to walk him off the field without incident. At that point, a uniformed law enforcement officer took over and escorted him off the field.<\/p>\n

It was perhaps one of the few highlights on a night devoid of them for the Tigers. The Crimson Tide dominated the game from start to finish, winning 20-9.<\/p>\n

In fact, Alabama was dominant enough defensively that LSU opted to make a starting quarterback change midway through the game. Starter Garrett Nussmeier<\/a> was benched, making way for Mississippi State<\/a> transfer Michael Van Buren<\/a> to play later in the second half.<\/p>\n

The move came, in part, because LSU was having trouble protecting Nussmeier. Van Buren, a more mobile option, offered the Tigers a bit more versatility.<\/p>\n

In any case, the move didn\u2019t quite pan out. Van Buren finished the game 5-of-11 passing for 52 yards, while also rushing for a single yard. Nussmeier finished 18-of-21 but for just 121 yards passing. He was sacked twice.<\/p>\n

Garrett Nussmeier benched for LSU<\/p>\n

It was a play in the red zone that drew the ire of interim coach Frank Wilson<\/a> and might have led to Nussmeier\u2019s benching<\/a>. Nussmeier faced just a three-man rush in the red zone, but he ran right into the arms of a defender for a big loss, erasing a touchdown-scoring chance.<\/p>\n

Instead, LSU had to settle for a field goal, which wasn\u2019t likely to get the job done against Alabama. Wilson was seen on the sidelines chewing out Nussmeier after the play.<\/p>\n

ABC analyst Sean McDonough caught a glimpse of the interaction and likened it to similar moments with Brian Kelly<\/a>. The former LSU coach had a penchant for blowing up on players on the sideline.<\/p>\n

\u201cOoh, he\u2019s channeling Brian Kelly right now,\u201d McDonough said.<\/p>\n

Kelly getting upset felt almost routine in Baton Rouge. Nussmeier found himself on the receiving end of plenty of rants but was certainly not alone. Plenty of other players and coaches got the wrath of Kelly when something went wrong during a game.<\/p>\n

Which is why fellow analyst Greg McElroy<\/a> hinted at feeling bad for Nussmeier. A quarterback himself, McElroy did point out how Nussmeier has taken plenty of shots throughout the season. At the same time, the specific play Wilson was upset about is tough to defend.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s taken a lot of hits this year, so you feel for him,\u201d McElroy said. \u201cAnd he has battled but man, that one right there. That one is on the quarterback.\u201d<\/p>\n
