{"id":281967,"date":"2025-11-09T21:10:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T21:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/281967\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T21:10:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T21:10:06","slug":"apple-reportedly-plans-ambitious-satellite-powered-iphone-features","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/281967\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple reportedly plans ambitious satellite-powered iPhone features"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Apple\u2019s iPhone already supports texting, calling <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/15\/apple-emergency-sos-via-satellite-hands-on\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">emergency services<\/a>, and contacting <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/15\/apple-emergency-sos-via-satellite-hands-on\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">roadside assistance<\/a> via satellite connectivity, the company has many more satellite-powered features in the works, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/newsletters\/2025-11-09\/apple-iphone-satellite-plans-image-texting-third-party-apps-low-cost-macbook-mhrq10p2\" target=\"_blank\">according to Bloomberg\u2019s Mark Gurman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In-development features reportedly include an API allowing app makers to support satellite connections in their own apps, a version of Apple Maps that allows users to navigate without a cell or WiFi connection, adding photos to messaging, and increased support for \u201cnatural usage,\u201d allowing users to connect to a satellite even if their phone isn\u2019t pointed directly at the sky.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of these features would potentially increase the usability of iPhones when their owners are outside the range of traditional cell networks. Another potential upgrade, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/apple-musks-spacex-finally-satellite-deal\" target=\"_blank\">first reported by The Information<\/a>, could improve 5G networks by allowing them to connect to satellites for increased coverage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The basic features would be free, Gurman says, with customers paying carriers for more advanced support.
