Legendary classic rock band The Who has finally kicked off their epic farewell tour, called \u201cThe Song Is Over,\u201d starting with an iconic show in Italy on July 20.<\/p>\n

The 60s band \u2014 which consists of a touring lineup of Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Simon Townshend, Loren Gold, John Button, Scott Devours, John Hogg, and Jody Linscott \u2014 played a rocking show<\/a> at the Anfiteatro Camerini in Piazzola sul Brenta, Italy. The set consisted of 20 songs and featured a completely refreshed lineup since the controversy behind Ringo Starr\u2019s son Zac Starkey\u2019s departure from the group.<\/p>\n

Townshend, 80, previously opened up about his love for touring despite the hardships \u2014 which is why it\u2019s particularly sad to see this band deciding to throw in the towel.<\/p>\n

\u201cI must say that although the road has not always been enjoyable for me, it is usually easy: the best job I could ever have had,\u201d the guitarist explained in a previous statement announcing the farewell tour<\/a> made back in May. \u201cI keep coming back. Every time I do, I meet new fans and feel new energy.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cRoger and I are in a good place, despite our age, eager to throw our weight behind this fond farewell to all our faithful fans, and hopefully to new ones who might jump in to see what they have been missing for the last 57 years. This tour will be about fond memories, love and laughter.\u201d<\/p>\n

The North American leg of the tour will kick off on August 16 in Florida and take the band through the end of September, where they\u2019ll close things out in Las Vegas. That said, the group isn\u2019t sure that they\u2019ll finish their farewell tour in their native England afterwards.<\/p>\n

\u201cTouring America is a damn sight easier,\u201d Daltrey told fans during a live-streamed press conference<\/a> back in May. \u201cThe U.K. has decided to make it as difficult as possible to go from A to B. In America, you seem to want to make it as easy as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rocker added that he was \u201cnot confident\u201d that there would be any British dates on the tour, calling the country \u201cthe land of \u2018no.\u2019\u201d The band\u2019s Las Vegas show is the last one they have scheduled at the time of this writing \u2014 but hopefully they get to say goodbye across the pond too.<\/p>\n
