The launch of OpenAI\u2019s Sora 2 has pushed the boundaries of what looks real, despite being made by artificial intelligence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">There are still a number of telltale signs that a video is fake, however. Some participants have extra fingers, their lips won\u2019t move in time with the speech, and real-life logos look distorted. Yet, the TikTok account <a class=\"hover:text-vertical-primary underline decoration-2 underline-offset-4 decoration-vertical-primary\" href=\"https:\/\/basincreekretirementvillage.com\/pages\/about\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Basin Creek Retirement <\/a>found a way to overcome some of that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Article continues after ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">The account, which has racked up over 63,000 followers, is pretending to be a retirement home and gained some popularity with videos of supposed retirees in creative Halloween costumes. However, it\u2019s all fake.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Basin Creek Retirement Home is actually all AI<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">As noted, the TikTok account sprang to prominence over the spooky season with some videos showing pensioners in costumes. One posed as Raising Canes by literally holding two canes aloft, and another was a chipmunk \u2013 dressing as a monk with packets of chips attached to their chest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Article continues after ad<\/p>\n<p>Article continues after ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">Those videos don\u2019t look as fake as other AI-generated content, leading many to believe they\u2019re real, which is why some have gotten over 2 million views. That has led to some big bouts of disappointment when they realize it is all fake.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">\u201cFinding out this is AI pains my damn heart,\u201d one said. \u201cIt should be illegal to not clearly label AI videos,\u201d another added. \u201cOk, this so the first AI video that I thought was real. NOW I\u2019m SCARED,\u201d commented another.<\/p>\n<p>Article continues after ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">The Basin Creek account does state in its bio that videos are AI-generated. \u201cA fictional world made with AI &amp; a lot of heart,\u201d it says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">However, if you\u2019re just scrolling through quickly, you may not stop to check it out. Plus, not all the videos are hit with the AI-generated note that some TikToks have.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">They do offer a bigger disclaimer on their merch shop, which is packed full of hoodies and shirts based on their Halloween clips.<\/p>\n<p>Article continues after ad<\/p>\n<p>Article continues after ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-neutral-grey w-full mb-4 text-body-6 md:text-body-5 font-body dark:text-neutral-white external:text-custom-content-text external:dark:text-custom-content-text\">\u201cThis project exists purely for entertainment and creative expression \u2014 a small reminder that there\u2019s still plenty left in the world to laugh about.
